Question about Shinco PMP-1700 Portable DVD Player with Screen

Open Question

Shinco PMP-1700 HDD Player

I was experiencing a lot of problems with avi files skipping when i was watching them on my HDD Player I copied all the files from the player onto my computer the formatted the hard drive and ran a scan disk to ensure everything was running ok. When I copied the files back onto the HDD it opens up the main screen where you can select either pic, video etc. However when you go into these options it says there is no files available. I have tried to place the video files in other locations but still had no joy. Any help would be very much appreciated.

Why cant i watch the vids i downloaded onto my coby mp3? i downloaded them to the vieos... ????

Check the specification of your MP3 player to determine the type of video file format it uses. Most common video files that MP3 players use are, AVI and WMV, there may be others such as FLV, MOV and DivX. If your player cannot play a video then it is an incompatible video file format, then you need to convert that video file to a format that your MP3 player uses. After video conversion then copy the video files to your MP3 player using the USB cable from your computer. Top 10 free video converters

Many video file formats, so many handheld video players, so many online video sites, and so little time. To have your favorite clips how you want them—whether that's on your iPod, iPhone, PSP or desktop—you need the right utility to convert them into the format that works for you. Commercial video converter software's aplenty, but there are several solid free utilities that can convert your video files on every operating system, or if you've just got a web browser and a quick clip. Put DVDs on your iPod, YouTube videos on DVD, or convert any video file with today's top 10 free video rippers, encoders and converters.
1. Handbrake (Open source/Windows, Mac)
Back up your DVD's to digital file with this open source DVD to MPEG-4 converter app. See also how to rip DVDs to your iPod with Handbrake.

dvdshrink.pngCopy a DVD to your hard drive and leave off all the extras like bonus footage, trailers and other extras to save space with DVD Shrink. Download Adam's one-click AutoHotkey/DVD Shrink utility to rip your DVDs to your hard drive for skip-free video play from scratchy optical media.
Honorable mention: DVD Decrypter, which Windows peeps can use to copy DVDs to their iPods.
3. iSquint (Freeware/Mac OS X only)
isquint.png Convert any video file to iPod-sized versions and automatically add the results to your iTunes library. iSquint is free.
4. VidDownloader (webapp)
When you don't want to mess with installing software to grab that priceless YouTube clip before it gets yanked, head over to web site VidDownloader which sucks in videos from all the big streaming sites (YouTube, Google Video, iFilm, Blip.TV, DailyMotion, etc.), converts them for you to a playable format and offers them for download. Other downloaders for online video sites buy you a Flash FLV file, but VidDownloader spits back an AVI file.
5. Hey!Watch (webapp)
Web application Hey!Watch converts video located on your computer desktop as well as clips hosted on video sites. Upload your video to Hey!Watch to encode it into a wide variety of file formats, like H264, MP4, WMV, DivX, HD Video, Mobile 3GP/MP4, iPod, Archos and PSP. Hey!Watch only allows for 10MB of video uploads per month for free, and from there you pay for what you use, but it's got lots of neat features for video publishers like podcast feed generation and automatic batch processing with options you set once.
6. AVS Video Converter (Freeware/Windows only)
avs-video-converter-box.gifRip and burn personal DVDs, convert video, create HD Video, split, join, edit, apply effects, copy to mobile devices!

avi2dvd.pngMake your video files burnable to a DVD with Avi2Dvd, a utility that converts
Avi/Ogm/Mkv/Wmv/Dvd files to Dvd/Svcd/Vcd format. Avi2Dvd can also produce DVD menus with chapter, audio, and subtitle buttons.

9. MediaCoder (Open source/Windows)

Batch convert audio and video compression formats with the open source Media Coder for Windows, which works with a long laundry lists of formats, including MP3, Ogg Vorbis, AAC, AAC+, AAC+V2, MusePack, WMA, RealAudio, AVI, MPEG/VOB, Matroska, MP4, RealMedia, ASF/WMV, Quicktime, and OGM, to name a few.
10. VLC media player (Open source/All platforms)
vlc.pngOk, so VLC is a media player, not converter, but if you're watching digital video, it's a must-have—plus VLC can indeed rip DVD's, as well as play ripped discs in ISO format (no actual optical media required.) VLC can also play FLV files downloaded from YouTube et al, no conversion to AVI required. Since there's a portable version, VLC's a nice choice for getting your DVD rips/saved YouTube video watching on wherever you go.

How do i get videos to download to my sylvania smpk8858 mp3 touch

Hello,

Before transferring video from the computer to the SMPK8858, the video must be in the matching avi format for the player.
The avi converter for this player can be installed by running the CD that came with the player.

The file format WMV, RM, AVI, VOB or DAT could be converted to AVI format by the AVIConverter.

When not having the CD at your disposal get a download of the zip file,
going to next link:
http://www.curtisint.com/html/CustService/Manuals/SYL_SMPK8858_DRIVER.ZIP
Right click the link above and select "Save Target As..." to save the file
to a location on your computer.
When the download has completed, unzip the zip file and run the Setup.exe file in the submap Video Convert Tool.
When the installation of the AVIConverter is ready, use the program for converting videos.

Transfers of the converted videos can be performed by connecting the USB cable between the USB port of the player and the computer.
Explore the folder on the computer for the converted videos and put them onto the player, seeing the device as a removable disk of about 8 GB or onto the micro SD card of max. 2 GB (when available).
Use the commands "copy and paste" or the "drag and drop method", just like copying files from the computer to an external USB memory stick or hard drive.

Videos....plezzz help me!!!

I had the same problem, I transfered files already in AVI format and the player did not recognize them. I used the sofware that came with the player (AVI Converter, I think) to convert my videos to AVI and I selected that the program copy them directly to player ( the player has to be connected to your computer while converting the files, obviously) instead of doing it manually. At least that worked for me. Another option is to convert the videos to flash format (.flv). I don't know why the player reads those kind of files (as per the manual and GPX web page it's supposed to read AVI only) but it works. Hope this helps.

Copying a recorded file so I can edit it in iMovie on my computer please

I'm pretty sure that iMovie can cope with lots of different file formats. If you can burn the file onto a DVD and get the file off the DVD onto your computer's hard drive I think iMovie will cope with the rest. I know I have worked on Imovie in the past with DV files from my camera, but I'm sure that something like an mpeg file or a mp4 file will work too. What are the file options for recording from the HDD to disc?
