Question about Sony FD Trinitron WEGA KV-29LS35 29" TV

Sony KV-32fs16 picture blinks + no input from remote + stuck in video 1 + no sound

OK. I have searched the internet for a whle and have come up with nothing. I noticed other people having the same problem I do, but they only have part of my problem. Here goes:

Sound: No sound at all. I have to run the rca cables to my surround and the video to the tv. I have tried all different types of setups and none work other than using the receiver for sound. If I go to the tv, I get nothing.

Video 1 - 4: The TV is constantly stuck in Video 1 with the "Video 1" notification on constantly in the top left hand corner. Cannot change it to anything else manually. RF connection does not work. It did however at one time accept channel up which brought it to channel 3 and is now stuck there. Will not accept channel up or change cideo command from remote or manually pressing on the tv.

Standby/Timer Light: Blinks 5 times. I researched this and found out it may not be worth fixing. Has something to do with video out. Still trying to find exact diag for this model.

Remote Input: Other than the one time it accepted channel up, the unit will not accept any other commands from the remote while it is powered on. If powered off, I can turn it on with the remote, but that is it.

Picture: Phew. Now to the biggest headache from this tv. I can't complain though as I have had it for 5 years and it was a champ for those five. The picture "blinks" in and out. I noticed that it would not blink when showing a darker image. If the image on the tv was not white, it would stay. However anytime a speck of white was in the picture, it would begin to blink in and out. I didn't notice it until I was playing GTA IV and noticed the tv wasn't blinking. I decided to see if I could darken the image by using the buttons on the tv, but I made it worse. Not all of the buttons were working so it was hard navigation the menu. A button got stuck and the picture went to its highest setting. Now the tv doesn't care what is on, it will blink because of the high brightness setting. Umm.... my bad.

Anyway that is about the jist of it. The buttons on the TV work. By work I mean the can do something. Nothing was spilled into them. They aren't sticky or anything. When I manually push the menu button on the cabinet, it goes straight to picture brightness. I can press all the buttons on the cabinet and it just switches between picture and basic menu. They don't cause anything to change. Anyway, if you have the same problem or a solution my email is:

Thanks in advance to anyone.

Thank you for the fast response. I'll give it a shot. I consider myself intermediate in the tech department, but I know nothing about TVs. Your solution doesn't sound very hard. Is it something I can take care of? I'll call some local TV repair shops and see if they have parts. If not, then I'll hit up Sony. Thank you. I'll let ya know how it goes.

The EEPROM chip has to be replaced and the coversion IC need to be replaced
as for the sound this may be a transistor pre amp or the volume IC

these components will have to be replaced by unsoldering and soldering in the new

you will atleast have to be able to do this to repair the set and also check resistor values and if capacitors are bulging at the top or shorted out

if you need more help just ask me direct in another thread because this one keeps getting pushed around making hard to find thanks

No Display, no sound- not working, showing dead. But input Power is ok. Picture tube filamment not getting power. model sony KV-2192M3

Check the input fuse first. If it is blown, there will be some short inside the power regulator circuit. Usually Sony sets uses STR regulated power supply. You can see this STR, and Ic, screwed onto a heatsink. Replace it with a same type and number. Before replacing the STR, check the diodes used in that section for damage, mainlu zener diodes. They might get shorted along the blowing of the STR. Check that section throughly before resoldering the new STR.
If any further assistance you needs, get me through Fixya. Ok.

Kv-32fs16, no picture or sound , red lights flash 4 times

In sony tv`s the 4 blink code(sony error codes)usually means that there is a vertical deflection problem.
It is often caused by a faulty vertical output i.c and/or related components. If you feel handy with a soldering iron let me know and i`ll help you with it.
Hope this help Merry Christmas

T.V. screen is green with bright horizontal lights top to bottom

There are 2 possibilities of green screen in this model.
1- Driver circuit of green gun is defective. 2- Screen itself is defective.
Now I want to know, do you have TV repair experience and basic electronics knowledge to test and check above 2 sections in TV?

No picture or sound

If the screen displays VIDEO 1 then the set is in video 1 mode, looking for a signal on the video 1 input jacks. Press the TV/VIDEO button on the remote (or the set itself if it has it) and cycle around to the input you are actually using.

Line across top of screen

If the picture is ok otherwise then only thing that probably needs to be done is a vertical height adjustment. That is if the lines never changes position from cold to hot.
