Question about Toshiba 42WL66Z 42 in. HDTV-Ready LCD Television

Toshiba Regza 42WL66Z. Cannot get TV from STANDBY to ON status

I have the Toshiba 42WL66Z for 2 years now. For past 2 months, the LED for power is lit as normal on bottom of unit, but pressing the power button on either the remote or on the TV itself will not turn the TV on. When I unplug from mains, and reconnect, the LED returns as normal, but still cannot switch TV on. No noise, no picture - nothing! The fact that the LED is lit suggests that there is power in the unit, but I'm lost after that......

My power button lights up but no display comes on the screen.

  • Anonymous Jan 18, 2009

Everytime tv loses power, when power restored, light blinks yellow but nothing will turn it on...when it's finally a steady yellow, I can turn it on...but I'm waiting 25 minutes already for that to happen. Last time I switched power modes to instant on and it solved the problem until the power loss happens again... this is rediculous.

How do you change the time zone on 2007 Toshiba Regza 42HL67?

the manual doesn't mention anything about setting the time, so I am wondering if it comes from the cable or satellite box connected to it.

this is how it is done on another Regza model
Setting the time zone
The Time Zone setup will allow you to specify the
correct time zone for your region. This feature will
allow the TV status information to show the correct
time zone information for your viewing area.
1
From the SETUP menu, highlight TV Settings and
press T.
2
Press B or b to select Local Time Setting and press
T.
3
Highlight Time Zone and press C or c to set your
desired time zone.
4
If you want to activate the daylight saving time,
highlight Daylight Saving Time.
5
Press C or c to select On and press O.

Toshiba 42wl66z won't stay on

I see so many here with no sound/nopicture issues:

ISSUES:

1. IF sound main fuse/s are good.
2. If no power or standby check main fuse, standby power supply and any signsof damage you can see---burnt parts etc.
3. almost all these sets the troubleshooting involves checking voltages on the main power board to narrow down theproblem.
4. Be safe and if you do not know what you are doing don't open the set.

Answers to issues:

1. RE:fuses---if a blown fuse is found get a good replacement(not the genericones like Radio Shack). Many fuses are special even aside from amperage--Don'tput a higher rated amperage fuse in the set for any reason.

2. RE: power supply in set: if total dead aside from main fuse the set uses astandby power supply that runs 7/24 and a main supply (some are combined andsome not.

Here aside from checking fuses you want to examine all the filter caps on thepower/standby to see if any are puffed up or buldged up in some fashion--Iattach a photo of a good one---top should be silver metal and PERFECTLY flatand have no brown material coming out on top or bottom.

What happens in the standby area is they use caps with too low a voltage rating(saves money) which causes them to fail in a year or two---the standby runs7/24 and the heat dries out the caps and they fail.

3. Trouble shooting consists of the above and then at some point you have tobuy and try a board to see if it fixes it or not.

4. Safety first--no TV set is worth getting injured or even killed over.4_3_2012_1_54_40_pm.jpg

Look for puffed up caps on the power supply board like these.

Recently I purchased Toshiba REGZA 47 XL 700 E is LED. Is this TV LED ?

Yes and NO your tv is a LED. To be exact it is a LED Backlight LCD TV. An LED-backlight LCD television is an LCD TV that uses LED backlighting instead of the CCFLs used in traditional LCD televisions. It is not a true LED display but is called "LED TV" by some manufacturers.[1] The use of LED backlighting has a dramatic impact, resulting in a thinner panel, less power consumption and heat dissipation, and a brighter display with better contrast levels. You can go to http://www.regza-asia.com/pdf/LEDTV/XL700/47XL700SPEC.pdf and look at the complete specs for your tv

No Picture on Toshiba 42RV530U

I had a similar problem to this yesterday. Tv is same Toshiba model as you mentioned about 4 months old. In my case, after the TV working perfectly following installation, the standby LED on the front (the one that is red on standby and green when on) went to a flashing orange (after switching on from standby) and the picture disappeared although the sound remained OK. I was unable to get any response from the setup or menu on the remote, otherwise I would have tried resetting the TV. Regardless of how much switching off/on (including disconnecting the powerlead and leaving for few minutes), disconnecting all peripherals, etc., nothing helped. I looked up Toshiba's web site and under support they basically suggest switching off the TV and restarting using the onset buttons (not the remote) and pressing the menu button (again the one on the set (not the remote) and if you could get the menu box to appear then reset to default settings. I tried this but the results were the same. I therefore thought the TV was defective. However, after much frustration I did the following (I think): 1) Disconnect everything from the TV 2) Powered up from the mains switch whilst keeping BOTH the startup and menu buttons on the side of the TV pressed down. The result in my case was that the standby led and one of the two beside it flashed green simultaneously. However, when the buttons were released, the TV started up the same (flashing LED orange and sound no picture). 3) Pretty well defeated at this point, after doing the procedure at (2) several times with the same results, I somehow thought of pressing the standby button on the remote either whilst the two buttons on the set were depressed or just after they were released. I am afraid I cannot remember which and cannot replicate the problem as I don't know what caused it in the first place. 4) The TV then started normally ( no reception as I had not aerial connected, etc.,) but I was able to gain access to the screen menu/setup buttons via the remote which were in French rather than English. However, after reconnecting everyrthing the TV has worked fine (obviously after resetting the language via the menu). I am sorry I cannot be more precise but I hope this might be of help to someone with a similar problem.

REGZA 42HL167 Won't turn on

I found it!!

In my case, the 42HL167, the CPU pcb (most commonly referred to the SEINE PCB) is having issues booting and just isn't starting up.

My friend gave me his 42HL167 after this problem started after a power event during a storm and I managed to fix it by reloading the firmware.

I posted instructions on my website at:

http://www.benjammin.net/www/pages/techtips/Toshiba-Regza-42HL167.html

Once I figured out some of the facts, it was a breeze...

I agree -- it seems like a design flaw. What cracks me up is that the places I called for a replacement SEINE PCB require the core (the bad PCB). Well GEE, why is that!?!? EASY FIX MAYBE?

It was. Too easy. Shamefully easy.
