Hi. whenever i turn the tv on it keeps making a clicking sound and it wont power up. it was working fine and all of a sudden it happened to do this. i opened the back panel and i saw a shoting diode rectifier (HERA806G)which was attached to a small heatsink aluminum plate at location D971. it was kind of sparking so i turned the tv completely off. it wasnt too bad so i carefully took the diode out.. my question is if i change this diode would it fix my problem or was there something else that causes the diode to be shorted? where can i order this diode since i couldnt fing a place to get it from. also if you could tell me what my chasis number for this model of tv. please help me out i will be greatly thankful to you . thankyou
This is a common problem with this set and you may get luck by just replacing this part. But of course theres never a gaurantee of this. Its a nte or ecg 598 HI voltage diode. Used as a damper or waveshaper. In this Im pretty sure its a damper.. Just make sure you unsolder the horizontal output transistor and make sure its not shorted. Now you kmust know if your not a tech and know the hi voltage saftey issues with tv sets, You can get hurt by probing in the wrong place even with this set unplugged. I included a data sheet for this dide/rectifyer . Its lockated as a PDF. All you do to see it is click on your model # at the top and scroll down till you see the PDF. Good Luck. Oh and let us know how you made out and if you reconsidered and got a pro to assist you or you fixed it yourself??
Here are the specs.
