Hi,

The "H E L L O" message is part of the booting/initialization process of the built-in micro processor of the RCA DVD Recorder. Just like in a PC, it can also suffer from crashes/hangs. If you are considering a repair, probable areas to start checking would be:

  • firmware, might need a re-flash or update;
  • hard drive, might have bad sectors or require replacement.
Alternately, if you are not considering a DIY (do-it-yourself), you may have to re-evaluate the options since in some instances, cost and time of repair may no longer justify having the unit serviced.

Hope that this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards. Thank you for using FixYa.

Can you provide the brand and model number of your DVD player?

In the meantime try unplugging the unit for about 10 mins then plug it back in and see if the same problem occurs.

Unplug the power cord for five minutes, check if there is a disk stuck inside.

Start unplugging the power cord, wait five or ten minutes, and plug it back.
If that does not work, then check if there is a disk stuck inside, if there is a disk inside try pushing repeatedly the eject button while you turn the unit on. do this a couple of times until the disk ejects.

If ther is not disk stuck inside you perform a factory reset by unplugging power, and plugging back power while holding down the on button on the recorder, hold down the button for ten seconds or so until you see the unit restart.
If it does not restart the firmware is defective, otherwise , or it just does not work, or you get error message.
I will see if there is a factory service menu that can be accessed using the remote, if there is none, or the unit does not respond, then the only thing to do is using an image CD to restore the firmware/software. The CD is only made available by the factory to authorized repairers.

Here is the reset procedure using the remote:

"disconnect it from all power and cable sources, leave off for 1/2 hour,
then plug back in and hold the stand by buttons for the remote and on
the machine at the same time"

Dvdr is frozen at hello mode;it won't open nor start up. I've tried to reset but nothing happens. Any recommendations

Try this...I'm not 100% sure if it will fix it, but it's worth a try. Get a paper clip and straighten it out. Now poke one end of it in the little tiny hole on the front drawer of the DVD player. This will release the drawer mechanism so that it can open. You may have to open it by hand....

Partly Frozen DVD player that is unresponsive

HELLO

OK! try plugging the unit back in to the mains power and bring it out of standby (if you can) and press eject. If nothing happens - don't panic!

Unplug it from the power and remove the lid off the machine. Where the disc is you will see what is called the disc clamp (this bit holds the disc in place when playing).

it's made of plastic and there should be TWO visible screws (one at each side) they may have black rubber stoppers over them. Take off the stoppers and remove the screws and the disc clamp will just simply lift off and it's very easy to replace as well.

There may even be a place on the bottom of the unit where you can insert a hair clip or something to release the mechanism.

Hope this has gone some way to help you (:-)

System stuck on "hello"

I had this same problem and held down the play button after unplugging the player. What i found was that i could boot up, but that shortly after the screen would scramble and alternate between static images and a green screen that flickers. I believe the single chip that drives this has failed.

Product appears to have frozen and will not eject media DVD

You might have a loosen cable of front panel or dry joints underneath the front panel connector on main board. Patrick
