You can clean it. Download the trial version of malwarebytes antispyware. Then run a quick scan. If that doesn't clean it, do this also:

  • run smitfraudfix: choose the search option, after it's done, reboot in safe mode, and run it again but choose the clean option
  • run vundofix, and clean anything it finds
  • Optionally, run spybot or ad-aware to clean up any traces

Hi,
To be very true, there is no permanent fix to the problem, except for reinstalling the windows after a complete format. This is very annoying virus. You can get rid of it by deleting, the enteries in the registery , but it tends to return and the only fix that i was able to find was to reinstall , coz thats exactly what i ended up doing on my computer. As i had the same problem

Thanks
Proton

Hi,
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
goodluck!

On windows vista some desktop icons have a security shield on right side of icon. how do you remove shield and not lose the security?

The icons having Shield icon associated with it means that they need administrator privileges every time they run. Not any kind of security as you think, this thing simply says that they should be run from any administrator's account or other account with administrator password.

Hope this helps, Mrityunjay.

Please tell me that you are not getting an internet explorer popup telling you that you have to buy someones antivirus and security software because it says you have a virus....

If so, that's scareware/malware that lies about you already having a virus to scare you into paying them to remove the FAKE viruses it lists that are really not on your computer. I would suggest downloading the latest version of Malwarebytes or Norman Malware Cleaner and scan your computer immediately.

I have windows vista ultimate and it will not install service pack 1 it gets so far and then tells me there was an error that caused it not to install . Hence I have not installed service pack 1 or 2...

  1. Close all applications, and then restart your computer.
  2. After your computer has restarted, disable any antivirus or any antispyware applications that may load during the startup process. You can usually disable the application from the notification area. This area is located in the lower-right corner of the computer screen. To disable an application from the notification area, follow these steps:
    1. Right-click the icon of the third-party program.
    2. Click Close, Disable, Exit, or a similar term from the list of options. If these options are not available, you may have to open the application and then close or disable it in the application.
  3. As soon as you close the antivirus or the antispyware application, try to install the full download package for the service pack that you previously downloaded from the following Microsoft Download Center Web site: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads)
  4. After you have completed the service pack installation, enable the antivirus or the antispyware application that you disabled in the previous steps.

Ressolving and getrid of antispyware"virus heat.com" and icons in the notification area of task bar

In internet explorer go to the tools menu and then internet options menu. Go to the programs tab and look for internet explorer being the default browser. Click make default. If you want you can take the tick out of the box which says inform you if its not default.

You may also want to go into control panel and choose add/remove programs and find the offending program and remove it. Be careful you dont remove anything else.
