My receiver gradually became prone to display ERror -4 more than it actually played a cd. What in the world is the issue? It would sometimes play the disc if I turned it off then back on again but even that has stopped working. I have only had it for 4 months...tops.

Re: Er -4 problem
First of all, you aren't going to like this solution because it's the truth. If you rate me poorly, it's because you don't understand the truth.
The optical pickup is bad and needs to be replaced. Anything made by Jensen is poorly built. Yes, you're lucky to have even gotten four months use out of it. I've seen some that only last for two months and they die. Fortunately, that's why you didn't pay that much for it. I would suggest getting a Pioneer in the future.

That error is (Format Read Error). Usually a MP3 problem when the disc was burned too fast, or corrupted during burn. Some writing programs dont put an initial track on the CD designating it an audio disc. I have seen Nero have many Problems with this. FYI Try burning 1x speed on the next disc, yes slow, just to see if it works. If so then gradually increase the burnning speed up again.
Check and see if there is a fuse on the back of the unit if so check it
to make sure that it is not blown. Also make sure that it is at
least a 25 - 30amp fuse. If that is not it the make sure you have the
power wires hooked up right. See a Er-05 message means that the power
that that unit needs is not there. So it will not read all cd's. It
takes more power to read a burner than a normal cd. Hopefully this helps
Hey schmidty, this isnt a solution. i just wanted to say i have the same exact problem with my cd-510k jensen. Whats goin on here? i cant find an answer. If you get one could you email me the solution? bobby firstname.lastname@example.org
I had it too. - when I bought the used vehicle and was elated that it had a Jensen sound system in it. The sound was good - played a CD the first time I put it in. We listened to the radio after an hour and then attempted to replay the same CD. The ER-4 message showed up. The man who sold me the vehicle had given me the paperwork on the unit and I reset it. I've had to do this at least 4 times which means you have to reset all your favorite stations, time, etc.
