I had the same problem and this is how I fixed it. See if this works (for windows XP). you might have to click "next' or "ok some in between the steps below

  • Open printers & faxes folder
  • Click "add a printer"
  • Select "local printer" and makes sure the plug & play box is unchecked
I have a HP C6300 - 7101b67.jpg
  • Choose "create a new port", "standard TCP/IP port"

  • Type in the IP address of your printer in the ip address box (this prints out when you do your wireless check on the printer)
  • Mine found the printer and linked up after that. It doesn't allow you to scan from the printer to the computer with this setup (or see any files on the memory cards you insert into the printer ports), but you can scan from the web browser if you type the printer's IP address into your browser.

Wirelessly connect to hp deskjet f380 printer

This model printer only has USB printer connection and it cannot be connected to a wireless network directly.
If you have a wireless router then you can connect a print server to this HP printer and then connect the print server to the wireless router. This will allow you to print wirelessly yo the HP printer when you configure the printer server and configure the printer driver in the computers to connect to the printer port IP address of the print server.

Need my laptop to communicate wireless to printer

If the printer does not have a built-in network card/print server then there is a couple of ways to do this.
If you have a desktop computer connected to the wireless router with a LAN cable, then connect the printer to the desktop computer and make this printer a shared printer on your network. This means that the desktop computer and printer needs to be on when you want to print from the laptop.
The other way is to purchase a print server, connect the printer to the print server and connect the print server with a LAN cable to the Wireless router.
If you don't have sufficient network ports on the wireless router then you need to purchase a hub. Then connect the hub and wireless router with a LAN cable and then the print server to the hub and other computers to the hub.
Setting up the wireless printing will depend upon which method you want to adopt and I can advise you when further when you are ready.
