Question about Kodak DC280 Zoom Digital Camera

Open Question

All the camera controls work, but will not take a picture!!

I have the above mentioned camera that is in excellent condition. I've not dropped it and there are no dings, scratches or any blemish on the camera. All the controls work without a hitch. The only thing is the camera does not focus when the shutter is half depressed(the green focus light blinks constantly). If i still go ahead and click the shutter fully, the camera does not take a picture! The display screen is blank. When the memory card is inserted into a card reader, it shows no picture on it.
I've taken the batteries out and allowed it to reset itself. i have reset it to factory defaults, Nothing seems to work.
Thanks in advance for any help!

No idea what is wrong.
Any help is gratefully appeciated.
Thanks in advance

Fixing your problem could be as simple as cleaning the battery contacts in the camera, or the solution could be a lot more complex and expensive. Here's a link to the Kodak Help Center - it provides a simple Q&A format to diagnose the problem and propose a solution.

I cant transfer pictures back to the camera

If you want to send pictures FROM the computer TO the camera, you must use a card reader. You can drag-n-drop pictures to the card the same way you transfer any other files. Be aware that if you've done any editing to the picture then the camera may not display the picture.

Too much bright

there are controls in remote by which we can decrease the brightness. u did not mentioned if they are working. try to decrease brightness by pressing the menu of remote & going to picture controls & find brightness control there.

if above function not controlling the brightness of tv, there may be fault in lcd panel of your tv. which may be diagnose only after seeing exact condition of picture.

No manual -have every one in all languages but english. Also want to connect to my computer and it work to produce pictures. I say again. got no english. XX

You can download English-language manuals in PDF form as well as English-language software from the manufacturer's web site at http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/
controller?act=ModelInfoAct&tabact=DownloadDetailTabAct&fcategoryid=320&modelid=14904

Have you considered NOT connecting your camera to your computer? The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, or you can use the Canon software mentioned above, or just about any photo cataloging program.

When I am in action mode (with the dial turned to the running man my picture is blurry and yellow

The mode you mention above is prioritized for speed moving object such as racing, basketball game, etc...

the blurry condition is caused by the movement was too fast so the camera couldn`t capture it, the yellowish picture is caused by unmatched white balance presetting

according to my experience, when you want to capture a moment like this,
switch the dial to S (shutter) mode, set the shutter speed to 1/80 or faster, using a flash will be an advantage, don`t forget to set the white balance to auto option

hope this advice help you with your problem

My screen is blank. it will take a pictue but say no image detected.

OK, I FOUND ONE SOLUTION FOR YOU. I LOCATED A USED LCD, IN EXCELLENT CONDITION ON EBAY FOR $16.50. IT IS ITEM # 290273128417 FROM DIGITAL CAMERA PARTS. THE PART IS A SIMPLE PLUG IN TYPE REPAIR, USER REPLACEABLE. I DID NOT FIND ANY OTHER SOLUTIONS TO THE PROBLEM. I ALSO DID NOT FIND ANY OTHER CASES OTHER THAN ONES WHERE THE CAMERA HAD BEEN DROPPED. THE REPLACEMENT PART SEEMS TO BE THE CHEAPEST WAY TO GO AND IS A LOT CHEAPER THAN SENDING YOUR CAMERA TO A REPAIR SHOP. THAT WOULD PROBABLY BE CLOSER TO $100.00. YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO VIEW THIS ITEM AND CONTACT THE SELLER BY GOING TO EBAY AND ENTERING THE ITEM NUMBER AND IT SHOULD SHOW THE PART AND THE SELLER INFO. Camera Takes Pictures of black squares with blue streaks in it

Hi billmik, Try cleaning the contacts on the battery door, carefully. This usually fixes the problem. If it does not, take the camera to a camera shop for a cleaning. This will solve the problem, and is much cheaper than buying a new camera. Let me know how it works for you. Best regards, nightdiver

Poor image quality

hotoPC 650 captures images in 24-bit color (16.7 million colors). Your pictures will not display maximum image quality if your monitor or computer's video controller doesn't support this color depth. Additionally, if your pictures are taken in 1154 x 864 mode, try increasing your video resolution above 640 x 480. You may need to upgrade your system to achieve the best possible image quality. If your pictures look better on the screen than when you print them out, you may need to upgrade your printer. An EPSON Stylus ink jet printer, for example, provides excellent image quality. If you used drag and drop to insert your pictures, they may appear grainy. Try importing them into your documents instead.
