My Sony just tonite turned on with shifted coulours.. looks almost like some magnet effects but none was near it.. otherwise works fine except people are mauve.. No control inputs make any diffrence at all. Is this fixable or is it dead (bought it in '91)

- Yes , judging from the postings this seems a common failure mode. Yes it's OLD but still(used to :-) work perfectly...although Certainly not worth spending $$ on given the current replacement cost. Do know which end of the iron to hold..but not a tech.. where should I start looking for a failed joint.. at degauss coil ends or somewhere onna board? err.. which board :-)

- Well.. I tried manually 'Degaussing'.. Watched the Colours shift slightly as the Coil worked :-) But it did nothing at all to 'fix' the problem. After a couple of days the colours all returned to normal.. all by itself. Presumably that was some kind of death knell, but it's working 'as new'.. still :-)
These sets sometime have a fault with the auto degaussing circuit. It will start to work and because of a bad solder connection, the unit shuts off the degaussing right in the middle of it cycle and cause a rainbow effect of color. Your gonna have to go in and trouble shoot the degaussing circuit my freind, BUT if your not a tech I highly advise against this as theres alot of high voltage inside these sets. Have it checked out by a service person. It really depense on you if its worth it. Personally, myself, I wouldnt invest a dime in a 15 year old set. Good Luck

- If you know where the plug to the coil ius just start resoldering with the plug out of the wall , everything on the two sides of the plug on the underside of the PCB. Now there might depending on the exact model, a black cube thats conncted to one side of the deguassing coil. If the resoldering dosent help then thats bad too. Be care full man as I said theres alot of HI volltage inside these sets. The part # for the thermistor is 1-809-744-11. Good luck.

Sony WEGA tube 34" 4.5 years old. The picture hue is all green/yellow/blue - no red. When I select the menu button all the colors are there. Sometimes it fades back to full color, but now most of the time the color/hue is gone. Fixable?

I have a 32" (?) Sony TV that is 12 years old. It is a floor model that is incased in wood with a shelf underneath for DVD player, receiver, etc. with a glass door in the front. Was watching TV 2 nights ago and everything went black and the audio was lost. I haven't tried anything yet. The TV is still in excellent condition and I would like to be able to repair it myself. Any info and cost of parts would be appreciated. Thanks Rick
