Re: red dot

That dot represent lit (stuck) red sub-pixel and if it only one that is not considerable as failure due to dead pixel warranty but you can try to solve this problem with software called screen fix. It possible that during exploitation that red dot dissapear.
Good luck

Is there a way to tell if my device is being charged from a USB port on my laptop

Your computer should notify you that something has been plugged into the USB port. I have a small rectangular charger, but it has a button on the end, when pressed, it has 4 dots that are blue when charged, red if not. So, when all 4 are blue, I'm ready to use it. Without that signal system, I do not know. Sorry.

There is red dots all over the screen! I can still see the picture but the red dots are getting wort by the hour! What can I do to fix it?

I'm afraid that it sounds like the monitor wont last much longer. It could be that the control board is failin and pixels are getting stuck, but it would be more economical to replace the monitor.

What does it mean by dead cells?

I assume this is related to your LCD monitor.
I think you mean dead pixels. The LCD monitor has tiny pixel elements, one for each red, blue, green color and each one of these colored pixels are turnes on by a transistor. When a transistor fails then the colored pixel it controls does not light up. This is a dead pixel and it shows up as a tiny black dot.
If the screen displays a blue screen, a dead blue pixel will appear as a tiny black dot in the blue screen.
You normally would not notice a few dead pixels unless they are grouped together.

Columns of tiny red dots fill my screen

sorry to tell you, I do repairs on LCD screens. And the issue your having is with the lcd part of the whole monitor itself, or the image processor is failing. More often than not, its impossible to find a replacement part to change out in this case. And should you take it to a repair shop, it will cost more to diagnose, order part, and labor repais than if you just got a new one. Hope

Red line on monitor of dell laptop

You may want to try another video cable. If that not it then you may want to open the OSD (On Screen Display) menu and see if it goes over that. If it dose you may have to get service from Viewsonic. If not then you may want to try the monitor on another computer to make sure its not traveling with the monitor.

Thin red line in middle of screen on nec 42 inch plasma monitor

I had the same problem -red, vertical bars along the right side of my Samsung 42" Plasma- and this is what fixed it: Removed unterminated cable.
I had hooked up an HD video camera to the set about two weeks ago. While I disconnected the camera I left the other end of the connector cable plugged into the T.V.. As I've since learned from friends who work in television, this is what's called an "unterminated cable" -meaning one end is unconnected. It can lead to problems with electrical interference and appears to have been the problem in this case; When I disconnected this cable from the T.V. the red bars went away.
So, check your cables. Make sure everything is properly connected and get rid of anything that might be picking up interference.

Speaker wiring

the audio out cable (green ended wire sometimes) goes into the audio out socket of your pc. (both are green some in cases with older computers then it will be the middle on of the 3 sockets) if you have more than 3 audio sockets then they will indefinetly be colour coded. if you have a sub and/or remote, plug the left speaker jack into the white socket and the right speaker jack into the red socket of either the remote or sometimes the sub. then just plug it into the wall and adjust the volume control via the start menu and the remote if you have one.

hope this helps

Red Dot and OUT OF RANGE problem

You might be able to take back the monitor since you just bought it, but manufacturers generally have a specified number of bad pixels for which they deem the panel to be functioning acceptably and they will only replace it if the number of bad pixels exceeds that limit.

Redhat 9 is rather old and I don't remember if this will work, but just in case get to a prompt and type 'setup' as root. If it is there you will have several choices of what to set up. Choose X configuration. If your monitor is not in the list, select one of the generic LCD monitors that match the native resolution of your monitor.
You could also tweak /etc/X11/xorg.conf to a resolution that will work but I doubt you want to tackle that.
