yes you can take out disk, then click setup on remote, then hit + and - over and over until you see the code pop up on the screen. Arrow over to change code. I have the same problem but don't know which code to put it on. 255 is not working for me.

Have you tryed cleaning the player yet with a disc cleaner or by opening the unit and cleaning off the lens very carefully with a cue tip? try that first . Good Luck

This is often a problem with the DVD player software thinking it is in a region different than your discs. (DVD discs are often encoded with 'region codes' meaning a disc purchased in Asia will not work in a player expecting to see North American discs)

What can happen is the player 'forgets' where it is, and your regioned discs won't play any longer (region free discs should continue to work as will audio CDs ....)

A power surge, random cosmic ray or similar flakiness can cause a player to 'forget' what region it was designed for ....

If that is what has happened you need to 'reset' the region code.

Altho I can diagnose this, I have NO CLUE as to how to do this with a Protron PD-800 DVD player. Anyone out there know how to reset the region codes for this (or generically for a DVD player?)

Thanks!! //cheapz

- 'setup' on this remote does NOT get you to a service menu .... is there something I'm missing? Yes, there is no disc in the machine, and the only buttons marked + and - are the volume controls, and they do nothing in the setup menus ....
