How long have you waited for it to start after pressing a key. I had one that took ages before anything happened.

SOURCE: Another "Won't Boot"

My guess is a faulty processor. I had to replace my motherboard a while back. Yesterday I was really proud because I got the machine up and running, proving, I thought, that I had successfully took it apart and put it back together. It had been out of commission for a while, so when I shut it down, it asked if I wanted to do windows xp auto updates.

This morning I got the exact same issue you have, so I opened her back up and noticed that I forgot to plug the CPU fan back into it's socket. So much for feeling awesome.

My guess is that while doing updates it overheated and died, but I didn't notice because I stopped paying attn to it because it was turning itself off. I don't think it's a Windows thing because when I try to put a boot cd into the computer, it still won't read.

Dunno what to say... I'll definitely post back here after I replace the cpu to see if I find an answer.

SOURCE: Toshiba A50 Not able to boot from CD

When you load the cd and reboot, when you see the toshiba screen, start tapping F12, see if this brings up the temporary boot menu, if it does choose the cd and watch closely for "press any key". If there is nothing showing, might I suggest you get an external cd drive that attaches by usb. You will then have to get back to the BIOS and set the usb as your first boot device and try to boot again from the usb cd drive. Good luck.

How to Boot From A Windows 7 Password Reset Disk?

Forgot Windows 7 password? It seems to be a universal iusse as widespread of Windows 7. To solve this problem, you can either buy a burned Windows password recovery CD on-line or burn such a password recovery disk withWindows 7 password reset software. But no matter which method you choose, you have to boot your locked computer from the password recovery disk. However, you will feel frustrated when you have little computer skill. Take these 2 methods as your reference when you encounter the similar problem.
Of course, firstly , you need to create a Windows 7 password reset disk, and then pay attention on how to boot from the Windows password reset disk .
Method OneInsert a burned Windows 7 password recovery CD in your locked computer boot the locked computer from the CD/DVD as follows:

1. Turn on or restart the locked computer, watch the screen for a message like "Press to http://www.passwordunlocker.enter SETUP "or something similar. Press this key as soon as you see the message to enter BIOS menu.
Note: The key pressed to enter BIOS is different based on manufacturers, but F2 or Delete are the most common keys
2. Use arrows to choose Boot on the taskbar, select Boot Device Priority and press Enter.

3. Set CD ROM to the first boot device according to the prompts on the right.

4. Press F10 to save and exit BIOS. You computer will restart with the changed BIOS settings

Method Two
If the method above doesn't work, you can also try to enter Boot Menu to boot the locked computer from the burned CD/DVD as follows:

1. Insert a Windows 7 password recovery CD in your locked computer.

2. Start the locked computer and immediately tap and keep tapping F8, ESC or other keys until the Boot Menu screen appears.

3. Select CD ROM as the first boot device and press Enter. After that, your computer will restart with changed bios settings.

PC users can not only set bios password for computer, but also set Windows logon password. If the BIOS is password protected, you need to clear or remove the BIOS password before you can enter BIOS to change boot order.
By the way, if you forgot Windows 7 password or Windows 7 password-protected, it is suggested to take Windows password recovery software to create a Windows password reset disk. Take Windows Password Unlocker for example, it takes you only 4 steps to burn a bootable CD/DVD or USB flash drive for Windows 7 password recovery in 5 minutes.
Step 1: Download and install Windows Password Unlocker Professional in any availble PC
Step 2: Burn a Windows 7 Password Recovery CD/DVD or USB flash drive.
Step 3: Boot from the burned the Password Recovery CD/DVD or USB flash drive.
Step 4: Reset Windows 7 password under Windows PE.

When pressing F8 on a dell inspiron 1525 I can't get into setup for the advance boot options menu. I am trying to overcome a "NTLDR is missing" issue

HI,
If you're trying to boot from the DVD/CD(OS disc) try tapping on F12 to go to the boot menu and then choose your DVD/CD drive to boot from the OS Disc. From there, you can use the OS Disc to repair your computer. Here's the step by step instruction once you've booted from the OS disc:
1. Insert the Windows bootable CD into the computer. 2. When prompted to press any key to boot from the CD, press any key. 3. Once in the Windows setup menu press the "R" key to repair Windows. 4. Log into your Windows installation by pressing the "1" key and pressing enter. 5. You will then be prompted for your administrator password, enter that password. 6, Copy the below two files to the root directory of the primary hard disk. In the below example we are copying these files from the CD-ROM drive letter, which in this case is "e." This letter may be different on your computer.
copy e:\i386\ntldr c:\ copy e:\i386\ntdetect.com c:\ 7. Once both of these files have been successfully copied, remove the CD from the computer and reboot.
If this does not resolve the problem, you might need to reinstall windows.
Hope this helps!

I am trying to re-install windows xp on a DELL dimension 8300 but it does'nt boot it can go to the BIOS and everything but it say Boot.mgr is missing

You should use the bootable Windows XP CD to start the installation.
To do that, you must first enter the BIOS in the Boot Options select the DVD drive as first (so that it will boot from CD/DVD first, instead of the hard disk). Save and Exit, insert the bootable Windows XP CD in the drive and when prompted to do so, "press any key to boot from CD-Rom".
Hope the above helps.

Manual for instruction setup key windows xp software ,pls help me to do it my self ! what key to boot or format windows xp i am trying do doing this formating about 4 day ago but still not successful.what...

Follow these steps and ia sure you will be able to boot by yourself:-
1)Change the BIOS boot order so the CD or DVD drive is listed first. Some computers are already configured this way but many are not.
2)If the CD or DVD drive is not first in the boot order, your PC will start "normally" (i.e. boot from your hard drive) without even looking at what might be in your disc drive.
3)Insert your bootable CD or bootable DVD in your disc drive.
4)Restart your computer.
5)Watch for a Press any key to boot from CD or DVD... message.
6)When booting to a Windows setup CD/DVD and many other bootable discs, you may be prompted with a message to press a key to boot to the disc. To boot to the CD or DVD, you'll need to press any key on your keyboard (like the space bar) within the few seconds that the message is on the screen.
7)If you do nothing, your computer will check for boot information on the next boot device in the list in BIOS which will probably be your hard drive.
8)Some bootable CDs and DVDs do not prompt for a key press and will start immediately.
Your computer should now boot from the CD or DVD disc.

I wiped my hard drive using kill disk. I have a Windows XP home disc to install the operating system, but when I boot the computer, I get the "Error loading operating system" message and it won't...

when you boot the laptop, if you don't see a message that says press any key to boot from CD, your boot order is wrong.

Check your boot order, when you see the splash screen (logo) look for a message that says press a F1-F12 key to change boot order or if that message is not displayed, press the key to enter setup.

Look for an option that list boot order and shows your hard drive, CD/DVD and USB options.

Move the CD/DVD item to the top of the list and try again.

How do i uninstall windows vista and making a clean dard drive

You would need a operating sytem cd/dvd (windows xp\windows 7) and a windows COA key. Select your bios to boot from cd\dvd player. Insert the new cd of a different operating system into the drive and restart the computer. It should say press any key to start from cd. Press any key and proceed. You will get to an option to format and install. Format the drive Probably marked C:. This will wipe out the drive and install a fresh copy of whatever OS cd you booted from. Good Luck.

Not booting

There may be many issues, lets start with the most common one,
When the notebook is starting up press the button it states to "Enter Setup" (I mean BIOS). (May be F8 or DEL) {differnt for diffent machines}.
When entered, there find the Boot sequence under the boot ot boot order menu (This may also be different for diferent machines).

When found, there set the "First boot device to be "CD/DVD" not the IDE/HD/Hard Drive.

Not put the CD, it will boot hopefully.

If the problem prevails, or there is already CD as the 1st boot device.

Then don't hesitate to contact again, and also state the error you are getting when trying to boot.

It this was helpful, kindly do rate!
Always here to help!
Regards.
