Question about Washing Machines

1 Answer

Kenmore Elite (2001): top loader washer:

Hi JSrock, My washer is displaying a code, "FL" According to TROUBLESHOOTING in the manual, it means "over fill." I followed the instruction...to press STOP/CANCEL to clear the display, but couldn't get rid of it.  I emptied the washer basket of wet clothes, and took out most of the water.  I even uplugged the washer overnight, but with no luck. I called Sears, they tried to sell me extended warranties on all my appliances, then referred me to Service/repair dept, who offered to send someone out.   Before I have someone out, I thought maybe you might have a suggestion. It would be deeply appreciated! MPP

    Sorry.  Model #:  11021062000
               Ser #:  CL  1020056
Also, forgot to mention that about a year ago, the motor?  or pump? was replaced
    Thank you.  MPP

    jsrock516,
    Thanks for trying!
I unplugged the washer, manually cleared out what water I could scoop out of the washer first, then opened up the back of the washer, drained the hose, but couldn't go further.  It did stop the error code "FL" from displaying.  I put it in rinse cycle to run the machine.  It dispensed more water, but did not go through the cycle to drain.  When it was running, I thought I heard a wire? at the bottom.  I think you're right...an obstruction.
After repeating the manual water draining process, I took out the cap of the calypso, and was intimidated to go on.  Plus, the kids were hungry!
I called out to the pros to come out.
    Thank you for your effort.
    MPP

The "FL" error is generally caused by obstructions in the pump. I would recommend you start there first. Calypso's are notorious for getting clogs in the pump. The pump can easily be accessed by removing an access panel onthe back of the washer. If you cannot seen any obstructions from the back, you may have remove the wash plate and work from the inside the wash tub. Start from the back, first and let me know what you find.

PS This is not an all inclusive fix as there other problems that can cause the same error code. This is the easiest point to start from, however.

"Thanks for Trying?" Have you attempted any advice I have offered? Just because the pump or motor was recently replaced, does not mean it cannot continue to be a problem. These washers are notorious for pump clogs. I asked you to provide me some feedback on what you found. Feedback is essential when trying to come up with resolutions to problems insted of leaving abritrary poor ratings with no comments. I usually stop giving advice once a problem is rated.

I apologize if you interpreted by intentions as me scolding. Please don't take my comments in a negative manner. My hopes were to help you AVOID that service call, because in many cases, it may not be necessary. If you're still interested in any further advice in order to avoid paying for the "experts" to look at your washer, you can view this link on how to remove the wash plate on your washer:

Calypsos are notorious for clogging at the entry point into the drain pump which is located under the wash plate and in between the inner wash basket and outer tub. You will need to view through the holes of the inner basket to see where the drain is. It will be located near the back of the tub and usually clogs with lint, pet hair and debris. A straightened wire coat hanger with a small hook at the end is very useful in fishing all the debris out. I'm not saying this is your problem, but it may be worth a look. Just wanted to help...

I have a kenmore elite washer and a error code fl keeps comming up and wont continue washing

The FL error code means:
Flood Condition:
FL flashes if any overfill condition occurs. This condition occurs when excessive water in the tub causes the overfill switch to trip. The control must realize that the trip was due to an overfill condition instead of a suds lack condition in order for FL to be displayed

With an overfill condition, the beeper repeats a warning every 10 seconds with no time-out. The pump is cycled in drain mode for 30 seconds on, 30 seconds off until the overfill switch resets or power is discontinued to the unit.

Press STOP/CANCEL to clear the display.

This problem I see on these are the water pumps getting clogged with lint or other things, causing the pump not to pump all of the water out at times.

There is a check "valve" in the drain assembly that seems to sometimes cause problems with the FL error code. You can remove this piece, and might avoid changing the pump.

Why is my kenmore elite (top loader) oasis washer HE is displaying a code of HC

The water inlet hoses are probably removed and reconnected in reverse, and then trigger the HC error code to flash indicating the hot and cold water inlet hoses are reversed. Reconnect the water inlet hoses properly and start a cycle then let us know what happens next.

The washer will beep every 10 seconds with no time-out. The
pump will cycle one half minute on, one half minute off, until
the over fill switch is reset or power is discontinued to the
