I'm using canon kiss x4.. having same problem.. and use to do a slight "tick tick" on flash.. and that pops up.. and once its popped up. i don't close it down until i finish my photography session.. because it saves a lot of time.. and where there i don't need flash i just disable flash from with in menu... it's ok for me

I pulled up manually as it tried to open and wiped down the flash and sensors now works fine.

Can you pull it up manually, Be careful when doing this but try opening it manually, it is possible that the catch for the flash is just stuck temporarily.

SOURCE: Err 05
In my case, I borrowed a camera and when I got it back, err 05 appears.
I've located a bit of old orange juice which sticked one of the sensors
- you can see the sensors when flash is popped out.

Usually grit or something sticky causes the flash movement to seize. Window cleaning fluid on a cotton tip works best.Clean remaining residue with methylated spirits on another cotton tip. Water based cleaning should be avoided as it may corrode components.
