Question about Mad Dog Multimedia Predator GeForce4 MX440 (64 MB) Graphic Card

Open Question

Graphics Card starts then stops

Hello, I have a Mad Dog Multimedia card and everytime i start up the computer with it in the PCI slot it goes up to the windows start up (XP pro) where the little bar goes forward and when it reaches the end starts on the other side again. Anyway it goes that far and all i get is a black screen the computer I'm using is rather old, it was mad for Windows 2000 and even still has the registration sticker on it. Anyhoo (I luv bunny trails ^^) I've disabled (i think) the on board graphics card and that still didn't do a thing, i found some drivers on a 2 different disks and even then i don't know if those were the right ones :P. Since i found it in my Brothers closet i have no idea how old (or new) it is or the version... A little help would be nice thanks!

SOURCE: I have the Mad Dog

Sorry to say, no. According to NVIDIA this is a legacy product (older model). The most current drivers offered by nvidia are for windows XP back in 2006. You can check for yourself here:

http://www.nvidia.com/Download/Find.aspx?lang=en-us

Your product type is "LEGACY"

Try a newer card and look it up at the manufacturers website. I love nvidia by the way ;)

Where is the display card located on hp desktop

Display Card is also known as Graphics Card, or Video Card.
It is a separate adapter card that plugs into the motherboard.

On the graphics card is a GPU. Graphics Processing Unit,

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GPU

(That is the Processor for the graphics card. The graphics card also has it's own graphics ram memory )

IF, a GPU is mounted directly to the motherboard, and not removable, (Therefore not replaceable), it is Integrated Graphics.
Also known as OnBoard graphics.

ON the motherBOARD.

Computer manufacturers, and consumers, erroneously refer to Integrated graphics as a graphics card.

Manufacturer's because they are trying to push a product, consumers because the industry has taught them wrong.

There are several styles of desktop computers. The two main styles with variations, is the 'pizza-box' style, and the tower style.

Depending upon the style, there may be a 'Daughter Card or Daughter board', placed in a slot on the motherboard.
In a slot on the daughter card, the graphics card is placed.

There are 3 main types of graphics expansion slots used. (Older one is ISA, but left out due to age)

PCI, AGP and PCI-Express.
These are technologies. They are also the names of the individual graphics expansion slots, the graphics card sits in.

PCI;

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PCI_Local_Bus

The slowest of the technologies. Uses a parallel bus, and is handled by the Southbridge chip. (Of the motherboard chipset)

Usually whitish in color. 164 contact pins long. 82 on each side.

AGP:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AGP

Technology that came out for graphics cards after PCI.
Usually Brown or Black in color, but can be any color. Is shorter in length than a PCI slot, and has a Locking Lever.

Located in-between the PCI slots, and the Processor.

PCI-Express:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PCI_Express

Latest technology. Started as PCI-Express 1.0, went to 1.1, then 2.0, then 2.1
Is now at PCI-Express 3.0

Longer than a PCI slot. Colors vary. Has a Locking Lever.
ONLY a PCI-Express x16 slot is used for a graphics card.

Not a PCI-Express x1 slot. (Or PCI-Express x4 slot)

That is the best I can do, until you post the Product Number in a Comment.

This is located on the back of your desktop computer, next to the Windows product key, or up on the side of the tower.

White Service Tag. P/N = Product Number

(NOTE*
S/N = Serial Number. DO NOT give out the serial number on a public forum )

For additional questions please post in a Comment.

Open cpu cabinet there is PCI card slot fix your graphic card into it.
Some graphicc card is SGP card Check on motherbord you find 1 slot AGP above PCI slot fix your card into it if it is AGP.
Motherbord has normally 3 PCI slot.
AGP card is always 1.
For disable onboard graphic.
When you power up the computer press F1 or F2 or "del" key to enter in bios.
Then go to advanced and vga configuration disable vga there .Then save settings and exit.
Let me know if you need further assistance.

3 seconds of video, then dark screen

Sounds like the monitor doesn't support the resolution being fed to it by the video card, experiment in the display setting with resolutions. Start low resolution and work your way up to what is comfortable and nice to work with. If the monitor does not like to display anything still for more than a few seconds, try upgrading all the drivers from the manufacturers web site.
