old gateway , now owned by ACER.com
the old Gateway in Seattle went BUST.
yours 2012 made, not too old, and is ACER for sure inside.
here is the list of top fails, and cures.
1: remove the big battery and test PC, run ok now, on AC only.
it must even forever.
2: replace the RTC coin cell battery at 7year max old. (its time)
3 ;the HDD is bad. we run HDD tests on it now., in this order
learn that if the RTC bat. goes dead the NVram forgets
and with NVram forgets the BIOS can find the perfect HDD.
that is why ORDER matters. for that reason.
if after replacing any RTC bat. we go in to BIOS and reset BIOS to defaults inside BIOS, then make sure boot order inside BIOS
shows, HDD 0 first. and is not missing, if missing HDD may be dead. HDD can fail in 5 years on cheap laptops. and for sure bumped or dropped.
The MCOS bat is inside the tower.Just screw off the side plate and look for a watch like bat and take it with you to any watch or bat store.Go to http://www.google.com.pr/search?q=cmos+battery&hl=en&client=firefox-a&hs=sC6&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&prmd=imvnsr&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ei=7bZ9TomvGNCSgQfz54lM&ved=0CEMQsAQ&biw=1440&bih=750 to see some samples.
Your BIOS settings are not corrupted. The CMOS cell is not memorizing your settings after you reboot it. So you must change the CMOS battery. My humble request to buy a qualitative CMOS battery so that battery can work as guarantee.
Thanks for using FixYa.
it is in back sdie of alptop. You have to remove 4 screw on each side of square. then you find motherbord chipset. cmos cell is fixed on motherbord circuit.
There are different types of cmos bat on different motherboard. Some are coin-type. If you have coin type bat for your cmos, get the part number and replace it.

Remove the Thinkpad main battery. Look for a small yellow disk. This is the CMOS battery. It is connected to the motherboard with two (2) wires that plug into the motherboard. The plug is included on the wires of a new battery. Check EBay for Thinkpad CMOS batteries. I have also heard Radio Shack in some cases carries this battery.
Gateway 450ROG CMOS BatterySmall internal battery that maintains calendar and clock settings.
PLEASE NOTE:
This is not the battery that powers your laptop; it only maintains
certain internal settings. If you need a main battery, please refer to
the page on our web site for your laptop model.

are located on the motherboard; if you are not comfortable with the
