Question about Canon PIXMA® MP530 All-In-One Printer

Canon Pixma MP530 not printing CMYK

I'm using a Mac with OS 10.5.5. and am using Quark 8 and Indesign 3 for page layout. When I print from either of these 2 applications, the only option I have is to print as composite RGB or Gray. I need to print CMYK as I'll need to print separations when I prepare stuff to send to a commercial printers. I've noticed that I don't have the option to select a ppd in my print menu. It is grayed out. The install went smoothly but I've noticed there is no print driver for this printer in my ppd folder and I haven't been able to locate it. I'm assuming the print driver is the problem but have no proof. Any help would be appreciated.

Can you do macs? how do i print duplex with this printer, duplex is suported by my mac

The Canon-supplied MP530 driver doesn't have duplex printing as a print option. Mac OS 10.5 has Gutenprint drivers built-in for a number of popular printers, including the Canon MP500 which is a near match for the MP530 and includes the two-sided option for printing.

With the MP530 plugged into your Mac (or, presumably, available over the network) go to the Add Printer wizard ( System Preferences > Print & Fax > + ). Pick MP530, name the printer something like "MP530 Gutenprint" and under "Print Using:" choose "Select a driver to use...", select "Canon PIXMA MP500 - Gutenprint v5.1.3" and then Add the printer.

The MP500 Gutenprint driver isn't a perfect substitute for the MP530 one, however, so you should do this in addition to installing the proper MP530 driver from the Canon website and adding the printer using that driver with a name like just "MP530" or "MP530 Canon". In a year or two of using the Gutenprint driver I've only once had a print job that wouldn't render correctly (some missing lines on the printout), and for that one time I had to switch to the Canon-supplied driver to get it to work. All the other times I find it very convenient to have two-sided printing available as an option.

The two sided printing isn't particularly fast, but it's a whole lot more convenient than manually printing the odd pages and then the even pages.

If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it and give a testimonial for my response

Thanks, Joe

Color matching

If this is a print problem and not just a screen issue, here's what I suggest.

In Illustrator, double click the colour swatch for the Pantone Book colour you are using and obtain the CMYK values.

In Quark, instead of using the same Pantone Book colour, create a new Process colour with the same CMYK values as the Illustrator swatch.

Canon mp530 issues with printing

Use scaled printing (Mac OS X) Instructions to use scaled printing. You can manually select the scaling ratio you wish to use to print images and documents. scaling_sample.jpg Note: The Scaled Printing function is not available when Borderless Printing is selected (OS X.version 10.2.1 or higher).
  1. Open the Page Setup dialog box.

  2. Specify the Scaled Printing settings.

Note: For a reduced scale printing, enter a value smaller than 100 %. For an enlarged scale printing, enter a value greater than 100 %.

  3. Click 'OK'.

  4. Open the Print dialog box.

I hope it helps!!!

Two-sided printing

On a PC...
- Ctrl + p to print
- Choose the Canon MP530 if it's not already selected
- Click Properties button
- Page Setup tab
- Select Duplex Printing

My paper always gets jammed, so I always uncheck the Automatic checkbox. Hopefully you won't have to do that.

Good luck.
