When i used my remote to close the garage it will start and stop and the light just continue to blink. the only way i can get it to close is to continue to hold the button down on the wall.

If the door can be pulled up and down manually, and seems smooth and free of restrictions, and doesn't close jerkily.... then there is a fair chance it is the plastic drive gear assembly inside the motor unit has shredded. They only last so long. (Dont know how old your unit is.)

This is what happened on mine. Got a replacement gear assembly for $40 at a garage door installers shop and replaced it. Problem solved. You can actually see a plastic "snow" inside the unit with the cover off where the plastic has shaved over the years. Takes awhile, but not that hard if you're mechanically inclined.

First though, I'd just check to make sure nothing is hanging it up when trying to close. I assume it goes UP just fine, and only gives you this hassle WHEN CLOSING. If all moves smoothly, take the cover off and look for the worn plastic gear and the infamous plastic "snow".

Make sure you put the black cup back on the end of the motor shaft and that it is pressed all the way on. Make sure the RPM sensor is plugged in. If neither of these are the issue, then you probably did not have the motor shaft pushed all the way back when you tightened the coupler after replacing the worm gear. Loosen that coupler up and from the front of the motor (opposite end in which the coupler is on) push the shaft back as far as it will go. Hold it there while you tighten the coupler back up and then try it.

It is most likely the drive gear. It isn't within the motor assembly but just in front of the motor. The part number is 41A2817 and is available at any good door opener service company. It comes with instructions.

Stripping plastic drive gear in Chamberlain opener: Won't lift

If you are a do it yourselfer you can do it. The new part can be bought at any good door opener company and they will most certainly have them on the shelf. The part should come with a set of instructions. Don't let them sell you a part without the instructions. The part number is 41A2817 Drive Gear. If you do find the job is to much for you they will gladly install it for you for the labor costs. One plus is that they will also check and service the door for you. Door maintenance gets overlooked most of the time.

The drive gear is stripped. Remove the cover and you can see it just in front of the motor. It is white nylon and the part number is 41A2817. Available from Sears or any good door opener service company. It will come with instructions.

You have to sync the limit switch with the trolly. Take the small white piece off the bottom of the gear and sprocket assembly. Rotate the center screw on the limit switch until it is all the way up. Put the chain back on the sprocket with the trolley in the up position. Put the small white piece on the bottom of the gear and sprocket assembly. Operate the opener with the trolley dissconnected from the door. You will have to adjust the limit screws on the side of the opener accordingly.

Garage door opener motor doesn't work.

2 flashes is a safety eye issue, but you problen is most likely that the chain is not sync with the limit setting. Take the bottom off the gear and sprocket assemble and rotate center limit srew until it is in the same position as the trolley.

Garage door will not open or close

I had the same problem, mine was just the white Sprocket assembly, it stands straight up, there is another one which is the Worm gear, mine was fine. I read on some other post, when you take off the panel, and if you see a lot of white dust (shredded white plastic) then its the gear. Went to Sears warehouse, had the part in stock and replaced it myself. Had to just unbolt the Sprocket assembly from inside (3 bolts), pull out from the top, a little hassel, but got it done. Follow the instructions and you will be fine. Remember after greasing up the sprocket like it says too, take the time to use some silcone spray on the springs and rollers, a lot of people forget to do this, even me...

Replace liftmaster 1245R drive/worm gear

I have a 1265 and took the cover off (unplug first).
There are screws securing the cover: 2 on each side at top, 2 at either end bottom.
Then I disconnected the chain.
There are 3 hex head screws securing the drive gear assembly (of course they thread from the inside out which makes taking them out a bit time consuming). Take care not to damage the circuit board or other electronic connections.
Then at the bottom of the shaft is the "limit switch assembly" that is clipped into the metal housing. Squeeze the 2 on the outside and it should swing free.
Then at the very end of the shaft there is another plastic gear. It is secured by a 3 prong plastic clip. Pull the outside clips away from the shaft while pushing the center piece back through the shaft. The gear should come off and you can now remove the gear and sprocket assembly up through the assembly.
call 800 528 2817 and order the "Gear and Sprocket Assembly".
I am waiting for the part and assume we reverse the order above to reinstall.
