Question about Sony Grand WEGA KDF-50WE655 50" Rear Projection HDTV

6 Answers

Sony KDF-50WE655 won't turn on.

KDF-50WE655 -- Set won't turn on, and Power/Standby light blinks 10 times followed by a 3-4 second pause and then repeats 10 blinks, and so on.

I have unplugged set, waited 5 minutes and plugged back in, but re-set did not work. When I press the ON button on front, or on remote, green light comes on for about 3-4 seconds and the cooling fan starts to turn up, then the whole thing shuts down and the red light blinks 10 times as before.

I will leave the set unplugged for 24 hours, but previously it was unplugged for 2 hours and that made no difference.

I had the set turned off for 2 more hours and nothing changed. I will try 24 hours if anyone else thinks that's the solution.

Previous suggestion was fuse and inverter. Don't know where to find these, and if a fuse is 'blown,' would there ANY power to make the red light flash?

OK --- It's time to call a repairman. This solution has gone WAY over my "paygrade!"

Hi,

Pls confirm the blink codes, 10?

On some models:

  • non-stop blinking: IC301 Jungle IC bad, faulty "IK" video path, possibly groun ded output;
  • 2 Blinks: main B+ over current protection, short in power supply or HV circuit
  • 3 Blinks: B+ over voltage protect: power supply short, check transistors, resistors etc.
  • 4 Blinks: No Vertical Deflection, Check IC1509, Q1505
  • 5 Blinks: AKB Circuit, Check Q705,Q732,Q761, on C board, also check Q218,Q219, Q220 on A board, IK circuit can also cause this try turning screen control up a little
  • 6 Blinks:No Horizontal, No Raster, checkC515 C516, & Jungle IC,IC206
  • 7 Blinks: High Voltage Shutdown, Flyback, shutdown circuits/components
  • 8 Blinks: Audio Circuit, IC406, PS401, PS402
  • These Blink Codes are stored in the set and can be looked up to see what error codes have been stored, To pull up Diagnostic Screen push; Display, Channel, 5, Vol MINUS, then power, a screen should appear with the codes and number of times they have occurred. Once the set has been repaired the ERROR CODES have to be removed by the tech, clearing is done by going into the service mode; display,channel,5,volume PLUS, power. Press 8 then Enter everything returns to the factory preset condition.
Most repairs require component / board replacement. This of course would require a fair familiarity of electronic components/circuitry and safety procedures, use of a DVM and a soldering iron. It would be to your added advantage access to a service manual or at the very least a schematic diagram with voltage readings. Should you be uncomfortable performing a DIY (do-it-yourself), perhaps your best bet would then be to seek the services of a qualified professional. Or consider the alternatives as proposed by the other experts.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards. Thank you for using FixYa.

IF You r good in electronic repair then the problems is ,you need to Check Q8014 and Q8013 for shorts, leakage, or bad solder connections on the " D" board. If the transistors are bad, check R8051 and IC8005, also on the "D" board. You will need a service manual to guide to do it your self........

If your TV blinks 10 times. Possible solution should be to check and replace on the G1 board Q1600 and Q1601 if shorted and R1614 and diode D1605 open.

Hi i have a sony wega...KDF-50we655. IT is blinking 6 times

Hi,

The Standby/Power light of the TV blinks when there is any internal malfunction in the TV. The self-diagnostic function of the TV will cause the STANDBY light to blink or flash when the television detects an issue. The number of times the STANDBY light flashes corresponds to a specific issue.

Few examples are given below; some of the issues may be resolved without the need for service.
1 blink / 2 blinks / 5 blinks: - This indicates that there may be a power-related problem with your set.
3 blinks: - This indicates that there may be a power-related problem with your set. The set will need to be serviced to allow a technician to determine the specific issue that needs to be repaired. If the power light flashes three times in sequence in a Lamp TV, the lamp cover is not securely attached. Reattach the lamp cover to resolve this issue.
4 blinks: - This indicates that there may be a back light or lamp power problem.
6 blinks: - This indicates that there is some kind of audio problem with your set.
7 blinks: - This indicates that there is a temperature problem with your set. Please check to make sure that the air vents on the sides and back of the set are not blocked or clogged and there is adequate ventilation around the television. We recommend that you check and clean the vents periodically to make sure the set receives adequate air flow. If the problem continues, the set will need to be serviced.
8 blinks: - This indicates that there may be a video-related problem with your set. If the flash sequence is not listed above or the light continues to flash, follow the steps below to perform a power reset:
Try the following steps to check if the issue can be resolved.
Turn off the television.
Unplug the television power cord from the electrical outlet.
Let the television remain without power for 60 seconds.
Plug the power cord back into the electrical outlet.

If the television is plugged into a power strip or surge protector, remove it from the power strip or surge protector and plug it directly into the wall outlet. If the issue is resolved, the problem is with the power strip or surge protector and not the television.

If the issue continues to occur, service may be required.

We Have a Sony KDF-50WE655, we've replaced the lamp and housing and we still have no picture or sound. Can you help?

Make sure that lamp cover is fixed back on its position securely after lamp replacement, turn On tv to check.
If still no picture or sound then check power/standby light is blinking?
If yes, count it how many times it blinks after 3 seconds long pause and let me know to diagnose possible cause of problem.
Thanks.

IT TURN OFF ITSELF RIGHT AFTER TURN ON GREEN

Hi,
If the Lamp red light is blinking then replace lamp, replacement procedure is written in user manual and its easy.
If standby/ power red light is blinking then please count its blinking and post here. It is an error code that has info about problem in specific section of tv.
You will see 3 seconds long pause between blinks so count pause to pause.

My sony 50" wega just quit. No picture , no sound , no nothing ?

Hi,
If you see standby red light blinking on Tv front with 3 seconds interval then count its blinks from pause to pause and let me know, its an error code.
And if TV does not even show standby light then check fuse in power supply that would be blew off for some reason, replace it.
Still problem? let me know with exact model number of your Sony TV.
Thanks.
