No picture or sound...only a very high pitch, (almost like the sound a silent dog whistle makes) when TV is plugged in. Is it worth seeking repair for this. TV is 7 years old. I have removed the back cover. The part where the high pitch is coming from, looks like some kind of transformer.
Yea your problem is most likly the horizontal output transistor and transformer. They always go bad as a pair and ifd the set looked ok before it went out Its worth the repair as it shouldnt cost more then 150 tp 2oo bucks maybe a little more but not much more. Make sure they replace both the transistor as well as the transformer and also take out l401 coil and scrap off the extra enamle off the wire and reinstall and resolder. Good Luck
.... also have them check the capacitors in the horizontal driver circuit, as they can cause the output transistor to go bad (and take the transformer with it).

The tv was working great and I turned the set off one night and the next morning when I press the on button all I am getting is a series of clicks (about 6 per power button push) from a relay inside next to the fuse. If you listen carefully during these clicks you can hear a slight almost whistle. I dont know if it is normal of part of the problem. When its first plugged in it seems to try to come on (you hear power going to the picture tube like it always sounded) then it starts clicking again. The next time you try it you dont hear this sound until you unplug it and plug it up again. The flyback transformer has some dark spots on it and a lot of dust but it doesnt look burnt (hole) on the outside. Looks like it might have been hot. Everything else inside looks normal (no burns or hot spots) including the boards
