Tiscali broadband wireless connection. Router modems last 6/7 wks then won't connect

I've gone through 5 modem routers the last one lasting the longest, Tiscali sent me this one when I extended my contract. It lasted about 3 months but will still connect for about a day if switched off for a day or two. My Belikin is the same but not a sudden loss but more and more frequent connection losses 'till no conection. the other 3 lasted less than 2 months each and have never managed to connect again. All have excellent connection to the router modem from the computer but no connection to the net. I have noticed that when I am connected and the phone rings, I lose connection. Tiscali have been less than useless though they did say my phone line was ok and could support up to 2 mps. I'm sending this from my workplace so dont have the router makes and models to hand. At the moment I'm using the original broadband modem sent by Tiscali, a Sagem 800 this losses connection 3-4 times a night on a good night but on other nights it will run for an hour or so, then won't connect. Hope you can point me in the right direction,
Ceers'
Andy.

I and others who work at same place have had problems just for last few weeks (since Tiscali changed home page?) where we cannot sync with work VPN/Exchange/Outlook. I also seem to get occasional "freezes" on general internet access. When I go back to the old Thomson speedtouch adsl modem, no problems whatsoever.

PAULUS

The first question I have is have you tried connecting to router via wired and wireless and ran the tests to see if the issue is with your wireless signal.

Then next thing to look at is connecting your modem to your computer and run the same test because the problem could be with your connection in your area. Note even through your modem is working properly you still could have bandwidth issues in your area and your ISP may not tell you that there is an issue like that in your area.

The last thing to look at is how long you have had the router for. If you have had the router for serveral years it is possible that it is just time to have the unit replaced.

Let me know if you have any more problems or questions.

We had to replace our modem & our wireless router isn't working

You have got a new modem. You will need to change the settings of the router according to the new modem.
First make sure that your computer is able to go online when connected directly to the modem. If that works then connect the computer to the router and the modem to the router.
open the set up page of the router and set up the router.

Computer cabled to Dynex enhanced G wireless will not connect

Unplug the router for ten seconds and plug it back in, it needs to reset. Some routers have a reset button. I often wait longer than ten seconds, I find a beer is usually the right amount of time. Sometimes the modem needs a reset also; unplug everything, then plug back in sequence, with the modem first, the wait, then the router, wait, then turn on your computer. That system works for any brand modem and router.

Not able to install the software, tells me mdm.exe has stopped working and won't go any farther

Manual Setup: This option is best if you cannot use the wizard on the CD, are replacing an
existing router, or are technically knowledgeable. Follow the instructions in this manual to set
up your router.

Connecting Your Router
1. Connect the router, the computer, and the modem.
a. Turn off your computer.
b. Turn off and unplug the cable or ADSL broadband modem.
c. Locate the Ethernet cable (1) that connects your computer to the modem.
d. Disconnect the cable at the modem end only (2).
e. Securely insert the free end of the cable (1) into a LAN port on the router, such as LAN
port 4 (3).

f. Securely insert the yellow cable (5) that came with your router into the yellow Internet
port of the router (4) and the other end into the modem (2).

Setting Up Your Router for Internet Access
To access the router using its login name and password, follow these instructions.
1. Connect to the router by typing http://www.routerlogin.net in the address field of your
browser, then click Enter.

For security reasons, the router has its own user name and password. When prompted, enter
admin for the router user name and password for the router password, both in lower case
letters.

Enter the user name and password. The router will display its home page.

When the router is connected to the Internet, click the Knowledge Base or the Documentation link
under the Web Support menu to view support information or the documentation for the router.
If you do not click Logout, the router will wait 5 minutes after there is no activity before it
automatically logs you out.
Set Up and Test Basic Wireless Connectivity
Follow the instructions below to set up and test basic wireless connectivity. Once you have
established basic wireless connectivity, you can enable security settings appropriate to your needs.
1. Log in to the router at its default LAN address of http://www.routerlogin.net with its default
user name of admin and default password of password, or using whatever LAN address and
password you have set up.
2. Click the Wireless Settings link in the main menu of the router.
3. Note that the default SSID is NETGEAR.
4. Set the Region. Select the region in which the wireless interface will operate.
5. Click Apply to save your changes.
6. Configure and test your computers for wireless connectivity.
Program the wireless adapter of your computers to have the same wireless network name
(SSID) as the router. Check that they have a wireless link and are able to obtain an IP address
by DHCP from the router.
Note:

6. Configure and test your computers for wireless connectivity.

Wireless set up problem - no gateway ip or limited connectivity

Connect using Lan Cable
be sure to enable java on your Browser.
Use ONLY IE: some router refuse other browser.
SET your PC on a static IP address on SAME subnet as your router (but of course different IP).
If subnet concept is NOT clear to just just ask here.
When connected with router (on Lan Cable) check every setting (WPA-PSK) TKIP key, Broadcast / Channel etc.
You can also disable every WLAN protection and restore it later.
Activate WLAN connection WHEN you are STILL connected.
Last but not least: SET your DNS IP address = your gateway IP (router)

Connecting a wireless router to Tiscalli broadband connection

  1. USB modem is connecting a PC USB port with a DSL phone line: CANNOT be connected to a ROUTER LAN (ethernet NOT USB port).
  2. Wireless ROUTER is NOT a modem and it CANNOT connect the Internet (or WAN) LAN port to any "phone line"
  3. Connect the Router Internet (WAN) port to Modem (you need a LAN MODEM = a modem with a LAN/ETHERNET port)
  4. Be sure your internet is running before strting ROUTER configuration with Router Company CD

Try disconnecting your Xbox from the modem, turn both off, wait 60 seconds.

Reconned the Xbox to the modem, turn the modem on, wait 3 minutes, then turn your Xbox on. That should work.
