Hi may i suggest ? if you wish to renew the complete cord/wire? why not fit a longer length to facilitate more reach thro different rooms from the preferred wall socket ? the problem of short /breakage of wires within outer sleeve near casing is common on lots of vacs it is not a difficult job to replace if you are competant with wire and colour codes remove the access cover where wire enters vac then observe the attachment of each wire ? then disconnect faulty cable transfer the rubber tube that is normally fitted at entry point to vac at this point to new cable remove outer sleeve of new cable same length as old cable to reveal the inner wires then connect to vac sockets resecure cable to vac as previous dont forget the rubber tube? refit entry cover and fit a new 3 pin plug bs kite marked ? then away to vac the rooms? hope this helps

How do I replace the Powercord on a Fantom XT64K Vacuum. The powercord shorted where is comes out of teh housing. I need to open up the unit & replace but need a service manual of instructions. Thanks...

I have done this several times, it's some what simple just take the unit apart and use the old diogram to replace the new one. Or take a digital photo of it opened so you have your own scematic. You should be able to purchess the cord at your local hardware store "be sure you get the same insulated cord" the numbers will be located all down the old cord. Also very important. If you have never done this before I recomend you have someone with this type of knowledge. For safty reasons. good luck and hope you save some $$$$$

I need to replace the power cord.

You need to remove the handle and the front housing then you'll see where the connections meet. Then you should able to get it off and replace it.

There are four screws, two at the front and two at the back under the step bar that rewinds the cord.  It lifts off from the bottom.  Be careful not to snap off the tabs.

Replacing the electical cord on Kenmore Progressive Vacuum

To the right of where the cord comes out of the machine is a large screw. Remove it, and slide the upper handle assembly free.
Then, on the front of the machine, remove the screws located toward the top of the vacuum just inside the bag chamber cover. This will allow the front panel to be removed, giving you access to the cord from the front.

It is not generally necessary to replace the entire cord reel, although occasionally it is.

Here's the quick and easy DIY way to make your cord reel work again: you will need a #2 phillips head screwdriver, any flat head screwdriver, a pair of scissors, and a zip-tie.

First, remove the bag compartment lid by gently prying the hinge parts inward with the flathead screwdriver until you can lift it free. Remove bag and exhaust filter, and then remove the two screws holding the rear control panel on. Lift the front of the control panel upward until you hear a horrible unpleasant crunching noise. You didn't break it.

Lift that free, and remove all screws from the top of the main housing. (I believe there are 6 or so... but I can't remember off the top of my head.) The housing should then lift free.

You should now be able to see your cord reel. see if it wiggles back and forth along the central axle. If it does, you'll want to place the zip tie around the side of the axle which is away from the large round copper contacts which look almost like leaf springs. This will ensure that the contacts make electrical contact again. Cut off the excess zip-tie.

When putting the parts all back together, it is essentially a reverse of the disassembly, but be sure that you thread the cord through the hole in the back of the housing before you attempt to screw the housing down, or you will be very sad; both because you'll have to disassemble it again, and because you'll probably jack up your cord and have to replace the reel, which is what we're trying to avoid.

Test machine. If it works: party. If not, you will have to replace the cord reel.

For further clarification on the process, contact me.

Good luck,

Need to replace power cord and can't find how to open canister to replace

I had the same problem and could not find the other screws. You need to pry off the power cord retraction button, you will find two more screws under there. It's pretty easy after that!!!!
