Lan and modem are two different things, you have to install modem drivers for windows 98 to work on windows 98. the drivers are mostly comes with modem. if you bought new driver then it might not work on 98, coz 98 is not supported by new manufactureres.

How to add a new harddisk to a Gateway Peninum 3 550MHz machine and install win98?

Do you want to replaced the main HD or add a new one? If you want to replace the main one, buy a Hard drive under 160 gigs. I cant remember but 98 can not deal with a bigger one, you will have to cut it up or Partition it. Partition it down to 20 gig each. Do you have your Org. win 98 install disk? Get a setup program with the HD you buy. That program should let you Partition it and also format it to use with 98 or fat32. Once installed in the computer set the HD to master with switches located on the drive (small jumpers) As it boots up look for press DEL to enter setup. Get into the BIOS program and ck to see it it will locate your new hard drive you might have to set heads and scetors so make a note of the stamped on the drive. Once the BIOS has found the drive it is a matter of format w/ copy the command comm program from win98 you will have to have a good win 98 set up disk. Once you have formated the drive with fat32 and copied commamd.com you will need to install CD/Rom drivers you might have to find a good old win98 starup disk to boot up the cd. you might find a good old floppy with a cd intall on it at a local computer shop. if using an old win98 startup disk you can then put in the cd and at the Prompt type in cd win98 then type in  setup and that should be a good start.

Cannot boot up from CD-Rom with Win 95 and Win 98

You probably have a version of windows 98 that was not bootable on CD. You would need to boot from a windows 98 floppy bootup disc, then go the the d:\win98 directory and run setup from there.

Wireless router

The answer to both your questions is yes. The laptop and the 98 does not care what router they are pluged into, the settings on them will not be affected. Only if you change the adaptors on the the 98 or your XP's will the 98 or XP need any adjustment. (unless you change the WEP key, then it is just a matter of putting the new WEP key in the xp and 98 machines.)

X3470 Win98/ME drivers link please

Don't get cheated, drivers for Win ME or Win98 for this printer had never been done and do not exist.

When you pay the helpdrivers.com website you get drivers that only work on Win XP, Win 2000 (only title says 98/ME), and you cannot get money back.

If you really want to use this printer you need to upgrade at least to win 2000.

Here is download page for Win 2000.

Motherboard supporting both windows-98 and win-XP-pro

it would be difficult to advise you as to which board to go for, as there are many different things to take into consideration, i would look at www.ebuyer.com and choose one then do a google search for any buyers comments. The problem with Win 98 is that newer mobo,s will not have driver support for it, as with Win98 you have to continually revert back to your win98 cd to install certain files which are no longer compatible with new boards. If you wish to dual boot a system; using XP and vista would be more suitable for the type of hardware you will be using.

Networking xp and 98

First off, the MN700 basestation is not suported to do this. But it is doable, and here is what I did. I connected a win XP machine (the ICS host) to a win 98 machine (the ICS client). Both used good old fashion network interface cards and standard ethernet cable - no wireless for me yet (that's next week) First I installed the software for the MN700 - aka the "Microsoft Broadband Network Utility." Then I went in to configure the router. I simply set the MN700 to Access Point mode. I did this by logging into the MN700's Base Station Managment Tool. I gave the MN700 a name (ie MSHOME-MN-700 works well), because after I change it from Router to Access Point mode it will no longer have a fixed IP address. To change it, select Security -> Base Station Mode Select the radio button for "Access Point" There is a spot on the bottom of this screen to give the Base Station a name, put something in here (ie MSHOME-MN-700). click apply. Now, I restarted my winXP machine, my win98 machine, and my MN700. Once they all came back online, I went to my dialup connection (Start->Control Panel then select Network Connections). Right click on the dialup connection, and go to properties. On the advanced tab, select the check box for "Allow other network users to connect through this computer's Internet connection." Click OK Now I restarted my winXP machine and the MN700 again. They came back online, and I could see the MN700 on the network (my machine now gave out IP address (via DHCP and ICS). Now I restarted the win98 machine and it hooked up to the network fine. Wireless devices also connect to the network now with no problems. The key is to set the MN700 from Router to Access Point. If you want to add File and Print Sharing, it is the same as on any network. If you have a USB highspeed modem, this will work as well. If you have a highspeed modem connected directly to a PC via ethernet and you don't want it to go throught the MN700 first, this will work too, but the PC will need a second ethernet interface. Either WiFi or wired. Cheers
