Re: sony kv27-42

Try removing the horizontal output transistor, and see if ther 135 comes back up. If it comes up a litle and shuts down replace the horizontal output transistor and the flyback transformer. But I must warn you of the extremly high voltage thats inside this set whn its even unplugged. Be carefull!! Good Luck

Sony-27S46 TV standby light flashes 4 times

Can you please confirm the model number? The category is for KV-27S42 and you state in the title you have KV-27S46. Also, when getting the 4 blink code, do you see a horizontal line on the screen or nothing at all? The 4 blinks means no vertical sweep. This can be a bad vertical IC (what you changed already) or no power to the IC or even a bad capacitor in the same circuit. If you know how, check the supply voltage to the IC. If not present, we need to trace the supply line for that IC. I will need to consult the service manual to provide additional details. Please confirm the model so I get the correct part numbers etc.

Our sony will not turn on, we hear the click but nothing.

The 7 blinks usually indicate a high voltage problem (voltage too high). It can be a simple regulator problem or something more complex. Please update this to confirm your model as KV-32FS120 and some indication of whether or not you wish to attempt the repair yourself.

KV27S42 dead - 4 blinks

the +13 and -13 are generated by the flyback transformer as well as the 200 volts. the 135 is your B+ voltage and sould be there at start up. check the HOT and the Flyback. if there is no 135v check IC1751 on the C board sometimes if bad it loads down the 135v line. and can give a faulse vertical error.

Sony KV-32FS120 blinks 4 times

good day.
Have you tried first resoldering the terminals in the circuitry?
Also, try to check for the ABL supply near the flyback. Watch out for the small voltage zener diodes.

response is highly appreciated.

I can think of a few conditions that would fit that symptom, my guess would be problems in the vertical circuit which are somewhat common in that unit model. First I would test R561 0.47 Ohm for an open condition and test and/or replace IC541 with a TDA8172. IC541 is your vertical output. Another suspect would be vertical yoke windings. Maybe not short at the moment but could be shorting intermittently. You would have to have the windings ring tested to prove the theory. And lastly - depending on the distoritions I'd ring test the flyback transformer for intermittent short, sony p/n#1-453-268-11 and test the B+ (high voltage) as it comes up and at the point of failure. Any surging would be dispositive of a voltage regulation failure. Nine years is a good long time but there is no reason that this unit can't operate another 5-6 years. The repair diesn't sound too serious or extremely expensive for a reputable shop. If you need any help locating one you might try the NESDA web site: and I would take the unit to the shop rather than have them come and pick it up - even though it's so heavy- it will save some money. Sorry for the bad news, as a certified tech it's the one thing I least enjoy is giving bad news in a solution. Good Luck Bill
