Registry change, no boot

Changed a registry filter to get CD & DVD drives to be recognized, then upon reboot, I get blue screen and it can find the hard drive. Dell OEM Operating sysytem disc boots, but can't find Win XP install to repair. Just gives partion option. Disc diagnostic shows drive is ok. CHKDSK/R wouldn't find drive thru repair console, but ran thru Symantec Recovery Disk. Still will not boot with same blue screen error message. Tried to use Recovery console to modify registry per MS directions, but get acess denied no matter what the md tmp string.

change your ide cable or sata.
Reset your bios settings pull cmos cell from motherbord for minute so all settings are defaults.
Also boot your computer with winxp disk then if you able to enter in setup then go to recovery console mode and run "chkdsk /r' command .
Also check your harddisk is master set jumper in master position .

SOURCE: i have the same problem the toshiba recovery disk

You have tried all possible solutions and troubleshooting.

My Suggestion is to check the Warranty of the Hard Disk and get it replaced. this possible shows a mismatch between the Laptop and hard drive.
