Question about Canon DR-6080 Path-Through Scanner

Open Question

Scanner doesn't end Job

Hi. Whenever I scan in a Batch of scans, after it finishes the last one, the scanner does not release the job so the software still thinks its scanning. The only way to stop the job is to press the C cancel button on the scanner which cancels the job and releases the software into thinking the scan has finished which it had anyway.

This is a pain because I dont want to have to press the C button after every batch of scans that i do. This has only started to happen within the last 2 weeks. It was fine before that.

I havent used Canon 2580C and hence cant comment on Scan Panel. But you can download SU5000 or Captureperfect 2.0 from Canon website (http://software.canon-europe.com/). This is easy to use and probably offers more features as compared to ScanPanel. Canon 5010C is a higher model as compared to 2589C and Captureperfect may offer better user interface.

SOURCE: Scanner Canon 5010c

This is a known problem with the scanner. Use PixEdit to scan which comes around this problem so the scanning terminates OK after the ADF goes empty.

SOURCE: 9080c fails to scan single page; has trouble scanning a batch.

Hi
what size page are you trying to scan, if they are smaller than the gap between the transport rollers, they will not feed.

the single sheet problem you have:- the scanner knows when there is paper to feed when the sensor is pushed up beside the pick roller and it will put the tray down again when the rollers are pushed up. sometimes the little plastic sensor to the left of the roller gets a bit stuck and needs to be freed, it wares itself out where it hinges inside the cover around the pick roller. just unclipping it and cleaning it is usually enough.

good luck.

Testimonial: "It looks like the problem was the plastic sensor mentioned (I put duct tape on it and the machine would then recognize a single page)."

SOURCE: Canon LIDE 500F scanner does not scan - returns error message about releasing lock switch, detaching interface cable and reconnecting

I had the exact same problem with another scanner (LiDE 80) after years of use. It stopped being able to calibrate itself so I couldn't use it on computers where it had never been installed on before (since on freshly installed computers, the driver requires calibration to be carried out at least once).

Hopefully my solution will work on the 500F, albeit with some modifications you'll have to figure out yourself. :P

What I did was open it up, the two strips of plastic to the left and right of the platen can be used to remove the glass surface:
1. release the oval catch at the front of each strip by prying them upwards.
2. slide the glass towards the front of the scanner a bit till a gap appears between the end of each strip and the back of the scanner.
3. pry a bit of the back of both strips upwards and keep them away from the glass so they won't stopped by the back of the scanner.
4. slide the glass all the way to the back, you should be able to remove the glass since the two plastic strips aren't blocked anymore.

The reason the scanner fails to calibrate is because it tries looking for the black/white strip hidden between the plastic case and glass panel at the front but fails. There are three possible reasons:

1. Dirty glass panel/damaged black/white strip
2. Covered/dirty CIS module
3. Loose drive belt

Mine was a combination of the first three. A little washing and thorough drying of the glass panel and black/white strip and careful wiping of the imaging element and led strips (the black bar is the imaging element and the white bar is the led strips) fixed the problem.

I didn't have a loose drive belt, so I didn't look into fixing that, but I see a spring loaded catch holding the drive belt tension; if you have a loose belt, it may be worth it looking into that.

A tip of advice: If somehow, after reassembling your scanner after tinkering with it it still refuses to calibrate, you can do a dirty workaround by doing the calibration with the scanner disassembled and placing the black/white strip manually above the CIS module at the front, making sure to hold it steady. Your images will look a bit muted, but at least it works! (I did this step before I reassembled the scanner just in case it wasn't fixed, but thankfully its working now!)

How do I set up my scanner to scan multiple pages at once, without having to keep hitting the scan button. ( fi-6140 )

Hi, are you using Scannedallpro software? If so, press the batch scan setting button (2nd right after the white drop down menu). This will give you access to your settings. Select add, name your new profile appropriately, then select SCAN, Click SHOW CONFIRMATION WHEN NO PAPER IN ADF, then click on Detail Scanner Settings. This will take you to your options screen. Select either Duplex, for double sided or ADF Front side for single sided. You can choose to drop out blanks by clicking on the OPTION button at the bottoms of the screen, then JOB/CACHE, click the selection button for Blank Page Skip and choose the sensitivity. (I usually use a low setting). Click OK.
when happy with your settings click OK again, then apply.

Use your new profile to batch scan. The system will scan until the hopper is empty and should ask if you want to continue with the same batch scan, allowing you to add paper until the job is complete.

NB Always ensure you have selected Multi Page Tagged Image File Format as the system will not save your scan as one document without it.

Hope this helps!

Try carefully taking the scanner apart and cleaning it out. A buildup of dust, even a thin layer can greatly reduce the quality of your scans.
