Question about Sony VAIO VGN-N250N/B Notebook

Something to know about the 'hive' vice the sole man approach

WV,

you appear to have some sway with the experts. there is something inherent in the angst that some experts express about the team approach, which happens in india and phillipines. That is different from the American Tech cowboy ..seems that fixya will go with satisfaction issues, before rewarding one or the other approach. your thoughts?

I don't have any sway with experts, other than I've been here a while and while speaking my mind from time to time I haven't compromised my principles of "Fair Play" and "My business ethics".

A lot has been argued about the 'team' or even 'sweat house' method of income earning in some other countries. FixYa has stated they are not aware of any such practice. Still, I've seen some of the experts who were thought to represent these 'entities' go away, gone.

Yes, FixYa, as do I with my customers, place a high value on customer satisfaction. FixYa firmly believes that a no questions asked refund policy is the only way to do business with its business model. I believe this is a reflection of the owner/founder of FixYa and his/her's business principles. Since they are nearly the same as mine, I have no dispute. I have also had my work refunded and its not pleasant and it leaves a bad taste in your mouth.

A really long long time ago a businessman and member of Kiwanis said to me while I was still in my 20s and working in my second store front (last one too!) that: "You make it on some and you loose it on others." This was a philosophy that when practiced helps you to suffer the losses and indecencies of being had. It happens. I developed a thick skin and rather than be a free provider to the poor, I work within effective non profits in my community to get my "good feeling all over" for being a nice guy. Its landed me on the board of directors in the last 20 years and even though it feels like a second and unpaid job to be on these boards, I know we are doing 'good work'.

Having served in southeast Asia, and in Vietnam, I would study the practice of Buddhism later to better understand what God the enemy had been praying to. I subscribe today to the philosophy of Karma. Simply put, What goes around comes around.

Don't know if this answers your question or not. A really cool philosopher I came to know, he's a psychiatrist by the way, stated: "We go through life earning income to provide shelter and purchase food to recharge are bodies with energy. That life is the pursuit of the gain, and loss of energy, in that pursuit. With energy being so precious, when we run out... we die. With that in mind then, why waste energy?" Anger takes the most energy away from us; of all our emotions we express or may express. It makes sense then to be cognizant of this and judicious in what 'things' and 'events' we choose to indulge our energy... and particularly our anger. A friend of mind calls it, picking the 'good fight' and "fighting the good fight".

Back to your point. How do I feel about the apparent indulgence of teams on FixYa. I agree with FixYa that this is not a good thing and leads to Expert dissatisfaction and is a composite of Expert Retention. As the business, FixYa, is burdened with collecting the 'proof' in order to put an end to all this. That takes some time. As a consultant to business in my area of the world, I focus on security and have done so for about 10 years now. Before you can prosecute you really have to have all the facts you can have in hand. Then, before you pull the plug on the culprits you need to have a real plan on hand to find and squelch this activity when it resurfaces again. This is why it appears to take so long for FixYa to move on this issue.

Today, compared to last Spring, there is a huge difference at FixYa.

Just so you know, FixYa to me is a very very part time thing. When I have a lull and can breath a bit, I go online and get my 30 or so and then casually log in in the evenings using my laptop in the living room. When some problem lands squarely in my zone I jump on it and help out. When some one is stuck in a dilemma and needs help even though this will only earn me a Helpful, I help out there too. What goes around comes around.

I also enjoy the Lounge quite a bit as it is a way to communicate with others on a global basis. This is a good way to learn and learn from others.

there is a virus in your system which corrupts a registry of the files userinit.exe and explorer.exe.
Its better to format or to repair:
So the problems is After you clean the viruses you won't be able to log on to your windows desktop. I think here is the best ways to fix it:
Step 1: Create a BartPe Bootable CD
" BartPE" (Bart Preinstalled Environment) is the bootable Windows CD-Rom or DVD from the original Windows XP that we can say Live CD that, very suitable for PC maintenance tasks.
To built it by ur selves please go to : http://www.nu2.nu/pebuilder/ to download the PeBuilder latest version and read the instruction to built your own bootable CD.
Step 2: Verifying and fixing the Userinit.ext
1. Insert the BartPE CD into the drive, and boot the system from the CD. Once the file loading phase is over, the Bart PE desktop will be visible.
2. Type Regedit.exe in the prompt, and press Enter. Select the HKEY_USERS hive
3. From the File menu, choose the Load Hive option. Browse to your Windows installation drive C:\Windows\System32\Config\
4. Select the file named SOFTWARE (the file without any extensions), and click Open
bartpe4.png
5. Type a name for the hive that you've loaded now. (Example: MYHOUSE)
6. Now the SOFTWARE hive is loaded, and present under the HKEY_USERS base hive.
7. In order to fix the Userinit value in the loaded hive, navigate to the following location:
HKEY_USERS \ MYHOUSE\ Microsoft \ Windows NT \ CurrentVersion \ Winlogon
8. Double-click Userinit and set it's value correctly. Example: Set it's data as follows:
C:\Windows\System32\Userinit.exe,

My laptop will not boot, instead it goes to a blue screen that states it is not able to access the hive.

I think this is the exact error : Stop: c0000218 {Registry File Failure} The registry cannot load the hive (file): \SystemRoot\System32\Config\SOFTWARE or its log or alternate

CAUSE
This issue can occur if the System or Software hive for the Windows XP installation is missing or damaged.

RESOLUTION:

To resolve this issue, please follow one of the following methods.

Use the Recovery Console Tool:

To restore a damaged registry hive, use the Recovery Console to restore the backup copy of the hive from the Repair folder. The Repair folder contains a copy of the system's registry hives that were created after the first successful startup of Windows XP.

WARNING : Although data should not be affected by the following procedure, you may need to restore changes you previously made to programs or system settings since the first time you successfully started Windows XP.

To replace the damaged registry hive and restore the backup copy of the hive from the Repair folder: Start your computer to the Recovery Console. You need your original XP CD, boot your PC from the CD and press R when it say 'Press 'R' to use recovery console.

In Recovery Console, change to the c:\Windows folder.

Type cd system32\config , and then press ENTER.

Type dir system , and then press ENTER.

If you cannot run the preceding command successfully (because the file is missing), skip to step 3. If you can run the preceding command successfully, type ren system system.bak , and then press ENTER.

Type copy c:\windows\repair\system , and then press ENTER.

NOTE : If the message that you received referred to the software file, replace "system" with "software" in the preceding command. For example, you would type copy c:\windows\repair\software (instead of copy c:\windows\repair\system ), and then press ENTER.

You should receive a "One file copied" informational message. For additional information about how to use Recovery Console during startup, click the article number below to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:
Q307654 HOW TO: Install and Use the Recovery Console for Windows XP

IMPORTANT : If you encounter problems when you run the preceding commands, you may need to use the Change Directory command ( cd ) one folder at a time before you run the preceding commands. For example, type cd system32 , press ENTER, type cd config , and then press ENTER.

Type exit , and then press ENTER to quit Recovery Console and restart the computer.

i understand this looks a litle daunting, please get back to me if you have any trouble with this.

My dell pops up with a blue screen and says "STOP: c000021a (Fatal System Error)"

To resolve this issue:
  1. Create a parallel installation of Windows NT.For additional information how to do so, click the article number below to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base: 259003 How and Why to Perform a Parallel Installation of Windows NT 4.0
  2. Start your computer to the parallel installation of Windows NT, and then start Registry Editor.
  3. On the Window menu, click HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE on Local Machine.
  4. On the Registry menu, click Load Hive.
  5. Type the path to the System hive of the prior installation, typically%systemroot%\system32\config\system, and then click Open.
  6. When you are prompted for the name of the key, type TEST, and then view the following registry entry: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\TEST\Select
  7. Note the setting for the Current DWord value in the preceding registry key. This is typically0x1, and is represented as CURRENT:Reg_Dword:0x1. This value indicates that the "CurrentControlSet" for your original Windows NT installation corresponds to ControlSet001 in this window. A value of 2 would indicate that the "CurrentControlSet" for your original Windows NT installation would correspond to ControlSet002, and so on.
  8. Locate the following registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\TEST\ControlSetXXX\Control\Session Managerwhere XXX is the CurrentControlSet that you identified in the preceding step.
  9. Under the Session Manager key, note and then delete any PendingFileRenameOperationsentries.
  10. Click the TEST hive, and then click Unload Hive on the Registry menu.
  11. On the Registry menu, click Load Hive.
  12. Type the path to the Software hive of the prior installation, typically%systemroot%\system32\config\Software, and then click Open.
  13. When you are prompted for the name of the key, type TEST2.
  14. Remove any PendingFileRenameOperations entries in the following registry keys: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\TEST2\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunOnce

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\TEST2\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunOnceEx
  15. Click the TEST2 hive, and then click Unload Hive on the Registry menu.
  16. Quit Registry Editor, and then restart your original installation.

Dell Studio Laptop- Cannot Log On Message- User Profile Service Failed Log on User Profile cannot be loaded

I had one case like this before where there was another user on the machine who loaded the user profile hive in the registry and then forgot to unload it. Therefore when the user tried to log in, it gave them the message just like yours because it's "in use" by the registry. If there is another user on your machine, please ensure that this person unloaded the hive in the registry. And then try logging in again. Please let me know if the problem persists. If my suggestion works, please do rate me. Thanks.

Sony vaio fan is making a grinding noise, how can i fix this?

The sony VGN-S460 seems to have an inherent problem with their cpu fans. It is apparent that the fan uses a ball bearing system which over time becomes worn and causes the grinding sound.

The only solution is to replace the entire fan assembly as they are inseparable.

Chat termination sequence

When I have ended a Live Chat session the tunnel is just lost although the Chat Window is still up. You have to go to your Profile Page look down the page to the header My Chat Sessions, then find the one you were just in and under that click the additional link, My Chat Session. You will see a full transcript.

On another note however, Lauren intends to purchase a Live Chat and as an expert engage in a Live Chat. She will then post to the Lounge and include Screen shots of both sides of the session so we can all then debate what to improve.

I've endlessly suggested our Live Chats initiate a IM window, probably MS Messenger, but I want the company to look hard at Google Talk, as Google is a major investor of FixYa the company.

Does that help you, or not?
