While the TV is off, press and hold down the input button, then press the power button for 2 seconds. You should be in the service menu. Using the joystick on the remote scroll down to LCD Adjust. Move the joystick to the right 1 click you should see the word Ghost, move the joystick to the right again 1 click, you should see a black square and LCD Adjust SHP and a number ( take note of the value) Using the joystick left or right adjust the black square for minimal ghosting (grey shadows). Then press the select button on the remote to save the new number. Then press the exit button 3 times to return to a normal picture. Good luck!

I have sony bravia KDL-40BX420 TV ,purchased 03 years back.recently got a problem with pictures & colour. It shows pictures with shadow & colours are blured.please give your feedback

I would check the menu settings and reset everything to default. if there are calibration tests in the menu, use them. Try more than one source for video.

The picture is clear but the colours are distorted like a sort of heat sensor is on the figures. Images of green and purple like shadows on the people in the picture

Are you using the component input. This is 3 wire video. If all 3 wires are not connected color will be off. This is very common. Cable may also be bad. How does the tv menu look? Press menu on tv or LG remote. Is picture bad on all inputs? You need to determine if problem is the source or the tv set by trying various video sources and inputs. If the tv is at fault but the tv menu is ok I would suspect the main board. If the the menu is also bad i would suspect the t conn board.

Hello

Make sure TV is on the correct channel or input. Check the cables for correct routing from TV to any other devices. Check cables to ensure they are tight and secure.

An analog signal converted to high defintion resolution will cause lines, blurriness or fuzziness in the picture. Change the resolution to a lower or native setting using the media device (cable box, DVD,). This may be an issue that requires a service call to cable provider.

A problem on one channel may just be a error on that channel. If using an antenna, it might need to be adjusted in order to ensure good signal strength. For digtal channels, go into TV Menu. Check the DTV signal. Weak signal can cause picture distortion.

If another device is being used such as a cable box, DVD player or VCR switch between devices and test picture. Check routing of cables that are used to control the image. This should be a series of red, white and yellow cables.

If a VCR with a cable box, make sure the VCR and TV are set to the correct channels for video signal to pass through. If problem is still occuring, try another set of cables. bad cables can cause picture distortion.

Bad cables can cause picture distortion as well. Try another set of cables. If picture is better than when using the cables replaced, this was the issue. If cables are not an issue TV may require service.

The red in the picture is shadowing the rest of the picture giving it a 3d effect

All projection TV sets have two very common problems. One is convergence ( 3D/Warped video or dead set) the other is CRT fluid ( Dull Video). Here are more details and solutions for both.

Common Problem #1) Convergence has gone out

Projection TV sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the video to look normal. When its out of alignment the video will look 3D, wavy, distorted, etc. In some cases the TV will also not show any video. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the TV menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired.

This is a very common failure on these projection sets and a fairly simple DIY fix. All projection sets including Samsung, RCA, Sony, Philip Magnavox, Panasonic, Pioneer, Akai, GE, JVC, Toshiba, and others at some point will have the same problem.

Common Symptoms include....

  • Screen looks 3D, wavy, or has a shadow or shadows
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.
  • TV shuts off after powering on. Power light will blink. TV may also make a chirping noise.
Here are some pics of convergence problems.

Common Problem #2) CRT Fluid is Cloudy

Projection TV tubes have a liquid coolant that is used to keep them from overheating. After many years the coolant in the blue and green tubes will become cloudy and cause the screen to look dull, red/orange, etc. You may even see halos around images.

My Toshiba 50 A 50 rear projection has great sound but no picture. Can you help tell me if I need a fuse or bulb?

This TV does not use a bulb. It is a Picture tube type set.
*No picture but there is a dim background. Menu works.
This is caused by a bad signal. Perhaps the video cable is bad if you use a cable box. The HDMI cable may not be working right. Try a new cable.
*No picture, no menu
This could be caused by a failure in the part that draws the picture up and down (The vertical). Can also be the side to side (Horizontal) or a high voltage problem. The last usually kills the sound as well so its not as likely.
If the cable does not fix it, you will likely need a technician.

sounds like the conversions is out you maybe able to resit the conversions in the menu or you will have to replace the ic chips. now if you have a DLP set you can not do this and you may need a digital board.

Magnavox 55" rear projection tv

It is probably your convergence chip.

Here is a quick test....

Using your original remote go-to the tv settings then goto the convergence section.

Try to adjust the red and then the blue convergence.

You should be able to move them up, down, left, and right.

If you can't move them in all directions your convergence chips are bad and should be replaced. This is a common problem.

Here are some of the most common symptoms.
Screen looks 3D
One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
Screen is bowed in but stationary.

Solution:

You need to replace the convergence chips and convergence resistors. Check the site http://www.TvRepairKits.com . They have put together a kit for your exact model. The kit includes a photo instruction guide, original Sanyo STK chips, convergence resistors, etc. Everything you need to fix it yourself.

Hope this helps,

No picture, however there is sound

Is this set hooked to cable? Is there a cable or satellite box? When you press the menu button, do you see the menu on screen? Do you see anything on the screen, such as snow, or is it completely black? If the signal is OK and the TV has no picture at all, the red LED on the front of the set should be flashing a certain number of times. If the LED is flashing, the computer has detected a problem in the set and shut the picture off. If this is the case, there is no way for you to bring the picture back by pressing buttons. The number of times the LED flashes is the computer's way of displaying exactly why there is no picture. The set should then be serviced by a qualified tech familiar with Sony TV's. If the LED is not flashing and the menu comes up on screen, check your signal source. If you are using a cable or satellite box, that box could be bad, and if you are using RCA jacks, the yellow (video) wire could be bad or pulled out.
