Maxtor 3100 will not work on Desktop with Windows XP Home version

I have been using a Maxtor 3100 External Hard drive with USB Connection. It was working on My Dedsktop which had Windows XP Professional. due to another p;roblem, I reloaded Windows XP Home version. when I plug in the external Drive, the sydtem says that it detected a new Hardware (it also signals through a sound) but I am unable to see any files displayed. The same External Hard Drive works perfectly on my Laptop which has Windows XP Professional. What is missing that I am unable to use the Mator drive on my Dedsktop with windows XP Home verion? Can I load the driver from Maxtor?
