Lights in our Thermador Hood model #VCH36

We have a problem with the lights in our Thermador Hood model #VCH36.
One bulb burned out, so we changed it as well as the other (figuring it was old, and we wanted them to match). The correct bulb type and wattage was used.
They worked for 10 minutes or so, and when we attempted to dim them (we used dimmable halogen bulbs that still work when tested in other fixtures), they both went out! The internal nightlight feature on the switch is working, so the switch is working and no fuse was blown on the main circuit breaker.... Any ideas? Is there a hidden fuse somewhere? Many thanks for ANY help! We have a thermadore hood (PHE48US Model #20090157) with 4 bulbs that are no longer working. We bought new bulbs for it, but the problem persist. We suspect that the problem might be in the push button switch. The exhaust continues to operate without problems. Can you tell us how to purchase a new switch, if this is the problem.
Thank you.

Most likely it is the switch, have you taken it apart and checked for voltage at the switch with a volt meter?

Here is a parts list and wiring diagram for you, please check all the wiring before ordering parts to narrow down the loss of power in the wiring

What is the wattage for the halogen lights for the hood. There are two lights but they do not list the wattage

As a general rule, the size and shape of the bulb will determine the wattage. Match it up with ones in the store, the value can be slightly higher or lower but it will still work just fine. Halogen bulbs burn out much quicker if you handle them without gloves or tissues. The oil from your fingers will cause them to burn out faster.

How to change the light

There are three different models... two wall models (the WL24 and the WL36) and an island model (the IS24). The instructions for changing the lights on all three models are the same.

Light bulb:

  • Make sure your hood is disconnected from the main power supply.
  • You may see a screw at the edge of the light cover. Unscrew it and remove the light cover.
  • Replace the light bulb with the same model as the original. There may be a decal near the bulb that indicates its rating. Don't exceed 25 watts! It's best to bring the old bulb to your store to have it replaced exactly.
Spotlight:

  • Make sure your hood is disconnected from the main power supply.
  • If you don't see a screw, then - using a screwdriver - lever the support ring, then grasp it & pull it straight down and off. This ring supports the glass cover - remove it as well (don't drop it!).
  • Replace the lamp with the same type (12V, 20W, G4 fitting).
  • Replace the glass cover and the support ring - it should snap back in.
Fluorescent light:
  • This needs to be changed by a qualified installer. Don't attempt it yourself.
Good luck!

Where can I purchase the 120V, 40w bulb for E27 base thermador hsb wall hood light

Try Reliable Parts Co. at 1800-666-0313. You will probably also need your model number off of the unit.

Both lights went out not exactly at once but one shortly after the other. There was a smell like a new lightbulb burning. The smell is still there and the lights still don't work. All other contrrols work.

If the bulbs have been working for several hours, they may have merely reached the end of their lives and burned out. I would begin by replacing each bulb with a new one. good luck

Light doesn't work on Kenmore Model 55022 Range hood...

If you're getting 120V at the lampholders, yet it's not lighting lamps that still work perfectly well in other fittings, two possibilitiesspring to mind.

One is that the cap on the bulbs isn't quite compatible with the fitting. Assuming they're some variant of Edison Screw, make sure that the centre terminal in the lampholder is sticking out far enough to touch the terminal on the bulb. Also check whether the lampholder achieves it's outer connection just with a small tab, rather than with the whole of the threaded ring. If so, make sure that this is going to touch the appropriate part of the bulb.

The other possibility is that you've got a high resistance connection somewhere - not enough of an open circuit to drop the 120 V when feeding the Megohm load presented by a meter, but more than enough to kill the supply when you have a lamp load. Only way to chase this is to use the meter on ohms range to bell out all the wiring between the lampholders and bits of the system which do work properly.

simply remove filter screen from hood (might as well clean it while it is out), reach your hand through the opening, grasp the light bulb and turn clockwise to remove.
