Question about Mgc A710 Monitor

Open Question

Monitor My monitor just went black and was fllashing dimmly on my monitor, I switched the monitor with another one that I have in the house and it works fine. Why is this other one flashing like lighting? Not bright, but I could not turn the monitor off on the on and off switch. It had a faint light blinking as well.

My monitor as of about 5 years, just went black. I was working earlier and I just went into the room and saw its black. I switched it out with another monitor and the other one is working fine. please help...

Since you have already narrow it down to be monitor problem, but just in case, try switching VGA cable also.
Most common failure in the LCD monitors are bad capacitors (bulging top/seal or leaking) in the power supply, failed inverter circuits (blown fuse, shorted transistors, shorted/open transformers), bad lamps (poor solder connections or worn out lamps). You will need to open it up and inspect the inside, see example of failed monitors to get some ideas what goes wrong: http://s807.photobucket.com/home/budm/allalbums
Post back what you see inside so we can guide you further.

Powers up but black screen shows

1st - Try pressing <Fn> + <BrithnessUP> keys a few times, (on HP <Fn> key is between <Ctrl> key and <Windows> key, <BrightnessUP> key is <F8> key and <BrightnessDown> key is <F7> key. If nothing happens try the 2nd one.
2nd - Plugin external monitor, (type and size doesn't matter). Turn on your laptop. If you can see desktop on the external monitor, your drivers are o.k., The problem is your laptop display, NOT the graphic chip.

Ram problem..

carthi, I do not think the problem your having currently has anything to do with your memory. If your video card was integrated into the board I might agree there could be a problem with your memory but that is not true. Your video card is an AGP8x device. Black & red colored lines can be produced from either a bad monitor or a bad video card. Your K8S-MX motherboard can not run DDR1 ( unless you mean that slot 1 DIMM you replaced). Your board only supports, 2x184-pin DDR DIMM sockets for up to 2GB non-ECC PC3200 / PC2700 /PC1600 DDR DIMM's. No video display suggests your video card may be going bad or monitor is going bad. To prove this concept, please temporally switch your monitor with a monitor you know functions correctly. If you can not temporally switch your monitor with someone else than replace your AGP8x video card. You can find up to six pages of AGP8x video cards listed at the link below.
