Ipod Shuffle is not working! Please help!

I have an ipod shuffle. at first my itunes said it is corrupted so i tried to restore it.. but there was an error.. stating that restore was not completed.. when i tried to turn it on it blinked green and orange lights alternately.. i tried to restore it again through itunes but now it's no longer recognized by my computer!..

when i turn it on, it just has a steady yellow light.. when i put it in my computer.. it no longer appears in the removable disk nor the itunes nor in My Computer! but it has a slow blinking yellow light... :(

please help me!

I had the same problem with a new 2nd gen shuffle connecting it to my PowerMac G5 (OSX 10.4.11) with the latest iTunes (8.0.1). The problem is in the connector. The shuffle using the same connector for listening, syncing with iTunes, and charging. It appears to be insufficient for the G5 to interface with it because when I swapped it for a new Nano, the Nano worked just fine. I tried 2 new 2nd gen shuffles (and hours with in-store so-called genius's as well as tech supp in CA and noone could come up with a resolution). So I figured it had to be in the cable interface (the Nano using a multi-pin connection like the old ipod's used to) and that was exactly the problem. I spoke to someone who said they had a G4 and the shuffle worked fine with that, so it must just be a G5 issue.

you have to use ipod reset utility.you can download it here..

install it and just follow on screen instruction. after the process is completed, sync your shuffle to itunes.
after that your ipod shuffle would work as normal.
my concern is, dont ever try formatting again using format utility of windows, you might get the shuffle corrupted permanently.

1st series ipod shuffle...working fine did latest install from itunes and now ipod will sync but won't play...does repeating of green and orange lights. Tried the restore and resetting but still not...


Here's simple steps to cure the problem if your iPod shuffle won't play and does that green-yellow-green-yellow-green-yellow blinking thing:

  1. Plug in iPod shuffle
  2. You'll notice the "Podcasts" play list under your iPod volume.
  3. Delete the "Podcasts" playlist.
  4. ITunes will re-sync
  5. Unmount the iPod Shuffle and everything should be fine.

Try a different USB port first. Here are some other suggestions:
Connect iPod shuffle to a high-power USB port on your computer. iPod shuffle may
need to be recharged.
â Make sure you have installed the latest iTunes software from
www.apple.com/ipod/start.
â Try connecting to a different USB port on your computer. Make sure iPod shuffle is
firmly seated in the dock. Make sure the USB connector is oriented correctly. It can be
inserted only one way.
â iPod shuffle might need to be reset. Turn iPod shuffle off, wait five seconds, and then
turn it back on again.
â If there is no status light (or the status light is dimmed) and iPod shuffle doesn’t
appear in iTunes or the Finder, the battery may be completely discharged. Let
iPod shuffle charge for several minutes to see if it comes back to life.
â Make sure you have the required computer and software. See “If you want to doublecheck
the system requirements” on page 25.
â Try restarting your computer.
â If none of the previous suggestions solves the problem, you might need to restore
iPod software. See “Updating and Restoring iPod shuffle Software” on page 26.
â If restoring iPod shuffle doesn’t solve the problem, iPod shuffle may need to be

How to restore iPod shuffle
  1. Ensure that you have an active Internet connection as new versions of iTunes and iPod Software may need to be downloaded to your computer.
  2. Download and install the latest version of iTunes if you do not already have it installed.
  3. Open iTunes, and then connect iPod shuffle to your computer.
  4. After a few moments, it will appear in the Source pane in iTunes.
  5. Select your iPod shuffle in the Source pane and you will see information about it appear in the Settings tab of the main iTunes windows
  6. The Version section tells you whether iPod shuffle is up to date or needs a newer version of the software.
  7. Click the Restore button. You will be prompted with one or more restore options that may prompt iTunes to automatically download of the latest iPod Software. The 4 possible restore options are:
    • Restore Option 1: Restore - Restores with same iPod Software version already on iPod.
    • Restore Option 2: Use Same Version - Restores with same iPod Software version already on iPod even though a newer version is available.
    • Restore Option 3: Use Newest Version - Restores with the latest iPod Software on your computer.
    • Restore Option 4: Restore and Update - Restores with the latest iPod Software on your computer.
  8. If you are using a Mac, a message will appear prompting you to enter an administrator’s name and password.
  9. A progress bar will appear on the computer screen indicating that the first stage of the restore process has started. When this stage is completed, iTunes will present a message instructing you to leave iPod shuffle connected to computer to complete restore process.
  10. During the stage 2 of the restore process, a green LED will flash once on iPod shuffle, then amber and green LEDs will flash briefly, and finally the amber LED will begin to flash continuously. It is critical that the iPod shuffle remains connected to the computer during this stage.
  11. After stage 2 of the restore process is complete, the iPod Setup Assistant window will appear asking you to name your iPod and choose your syncing preferences similar to when you connected your iPod for the first time.

Green/orange flahing light on IPod and no music.


From Apple.com Support Website. If the front status light on your iPod shuffle blinks orange and green when you press any button, then your iPod shuffle is experiencing some type of error. Try these troubleshooting steps to resolve the problem. To troubleshoot the iPod shuffle error light: 1. Turn off your iPod shuffle 2. Wait a few seconds 3. Turn your iPod shuffle back on again If this does not resolve the problem: 1. Check to make sure there are songs on your iPod shuffle 2. Use iTunes to add songs to iPod shuffle and try again If your iPod shuffle continues to display a blinking orange and green light, use iPod Updater 2005-02-11 or later to restore iPod shuffle, and then add songs with iTunes. If your iPod shuffle still shows a blinking orange and green light after trying all of the above steps, your iPod shuffle may need service. Best of Luck.
