Re: Sony 27S15

You Probably have a bad flyback transformer(The HI VOLTAGE) and a defective horizontal output transistor. I you have training in the tv repair , then you can go to and getthese parts. they arte soldered in so your gonna have to know how to solder and unsolder as well. You should also know all the safety issues regarding the HI voltage in these sets. If you dont I highly advise that you take this set to a pro for repair as theres hi voltage inside these sets even when they are unplugged. Good Luck

Barry, remove the back cover by removing the screws with an arrow next to them. The fuse is located on the left side as viewed from the back, where the power cord connects to the circuit board.

My tv went dead during a lightning storm. I heard

The sound could have come from one of your power capacitors. You could tell if one of them is no longer operational by looking at them; they will be burned, or blistered, or will be bulging. If this is a CRT type of TV ensure that you only look inside if you are fully aware of how to deal with the lethal voltages that are stored on the inside of the unit.

Sony tv wont turn on, standby light just flashes

check for an open resistor on the power supply, it is actually a fusible resistor, (white) if open, then check the converter, some sets have two separate and some have it as one. it will be on a heat sink on the power supply. if shorted then check for a shorted horizontal output transistor and repair cold solder joints on the horizintal drive transformer which is the real cause of this problem

Sony KV 27S15

The power supply may have failed components. It is also possible that there is a failure in the scan amplifiers and in the high voltage sections that caused the power supply to fail. There are a number of scenarios that can cause this type of failure.

The set will require proper troubleshooting to service it. These types of failures will usually not show anything visually.

Sony kv27s15 just went dead, how to fix it?

We just experienced the same thing. My daughter was watching TV and it went dead. We could not get it to turn back on. I'm guessing that this model Sony TV had a 13 year life expectancy. I offered it to a local technician who refurbs and sells TVs, and he wasn't interested. He said he doesn't mess with anything over 10 years old because it's too hard to sell. We just went ahead and bought a new LCD HDTV. It's a shame though. If someone were able to fix the old TV, I'm sure a nursing home or non-profit facility could use it. Our only other option is to pay $15 to have it recycled.

Sony Bravia XBR-2 32-inch LCD with popping noise problem

Has anyone heard of something like this where the cable box/service is causing popping sounds? yes & it is common problem. And is this something I should be concerned about causing damage to the TV's speakers? not at all. The Sony tech-support representative (over the phone) diagnosed it further to a problem not with the TV but with the cable box/service because there were no popping sounds when I played a DVD on my Playstation 2 that is attached to the TV. they are right that your problem is not due to tv. it is due to cable box/service? yes but not defective it reqires to change the way you have connected tv to cable.please call tech to get it connected in such a way so that you do not get popping sound when you you put off cable box.

No picture / No Sound / No nothing

that sounds like the Hi voltage transformer went bad.. If your a tech simply disconnect the horizontal output transistor and see if thats shorted. If it is then it is for sure the HV transformer. If its not shorted look in the main power supply. Its cost is around 40 bucks or so and the transistor is about 15 to 20 bucks. This entire repair should cost ya around 150 to 175. So if you decide this tv is the one you like then have it fixed. Good Luck
