Question about Canon PIXMA iP1800 InkJet Photo Printer
My Pixma ip1600 won't print because of a paper jam message that keeps appearing. I can't see any paper (or piece) when I open the front cover, which is the only cover mentioned in the manual and the only one I can find that'll open. Numerous cycles of the "resume" button don't help. I tried the maintenance software and ran the option to clean the paper feed rollers, but this also ends in a paper jam message. I unplugged it and turned it upside down & shook it but nothing came out. Don't know if this is a true jam or a false message. I ran a few sheets of labels thru it shortly before the problem arose but an unaware of any labels coming off inside the machine- didn't notice any missing from the sheets after printing. I was only able to use it a few times after this. Anyone know how to get it apart, easily, to check the innards for any pieces of paper (or labels)? Or, a way to bypass the error message?
false paper jam message.

SOURCE: paper jam error message
I had the same problem, and found that the sheet feeder mechanism was intermittent. The problem seems to be that the lubricating grease inside the mechanism.(white nylon round thing with gears on it) becomes too slippery with age, and stops picking up the activating arm which allows the cam unit to move to kick the top sheet of paper into the rubber feed wheel.
The repair was extremely difficult because it involved taking most of the printer apart to get to the ink pump/sheet feeder mechanism.(white nylon round thing with gears on it). And then I tried quite a few lubricants (including no lubricant at all) but none of these worked reliably. Finally I tried a dab of automotive wheel bearing grease (it feels like glue), and this worked perfectly. I have had no more paper jam errors and no miss-feeds in about 7months of everyday use.
