Did it out with a screw driver if you don't mind breaking the power button that most folks don't use thanks to remote. See if that works.

TV will not turn on with remote. When I turn it on manually, the menu appears and switches modes on its own. What is causing the problem?

The manual control buttons on the PCB board inside the tv have problems, check,if the Menu button stuck in?Tries unplug, replug about an hour later to let the tv reset, see that solved ur problems.

Toshiba 32A42A - Menu options pop up all by themself, and the TV is making its own choices. Can this be fixed or do I call a Preist for an exercism or just get rid of it ?

I had the exact same problem yesterday. It took me 1 hour and 45 minutes to find a solution. Here is the solution: It is not a stuck button or the television being 'posessed' that is resulting in the menu cycling. It is the fact that the television is in the DEMO mode. I was able to read the manual for this television online at the Toshiba website. On page 30 it states 'To stop the DEMO mode press 'recall', ''exit', or 'power'. Unfortunately the 'recall', and 'exit' button are on the original remote which I no longer have. The power button on my model is broken. I use the cable box to 'turn on the television'. In reality, the TV is never off, it is just showing a black screen when the cable box and DVD player is off. I suspect this defect in the power button has occured on other TV's experiencing this problem. I was able to push the broken power button to the inside and side of the television casing exposing a round circle that the power button pushes when the power button is not broken. I pushed this small circle to turn the television off. After about 5 seconds I pushed the button again and the television went on without the annoying menu popping up. Just unplugging the television and plugging the television back in does not work. You need to be able to push the power button, or one of the other 2 buttons on the remote previously mentioned.
Also on page 30 it explains how to activate the DEMO mode. It's not too hard to accidentally do, especially when you have kids pushing buttons haphazardly.
I hope this helps someone outthere in cyberspace! Kevin

My toshiba 32a42a does not have a power button-how do you turn it on or off? Most remotes require the tv to be on so you can program it.

This set has a power button on the far right of all the buttons on the front. I looked at page 11 of the owners manual http://ec1.images-amazon.com/media/i3d/01/A/man-migrate/MANUAL000001840.pdf and it shows it very clearly. It looks as if the power button may be turned the opposite way from the other buttons. Thanks

Cant turn off panasonic PIP

To turn off the "stuck" pip on a Panasonic tv without a remote, turn off the tv. Then hold down the "Action" button on the front of the tv and press the power button. This will activate a reset and self check of the systems and voila! The pesky pip screen will be gone! This is on an approximately 10 year old regular crt "CT-xxxxx" series tv.

TV won't turn on

Some times the power button gets stuck sideways when you push it, leaving it half pushed in. Just be sure the power button is able to move in and out freeley, use a small knife to free it if stuck. Darren
