Question about Maytag Atlantis MDE7400AY Electric Dryer

Open Question

Maytag Atlantis Dryer not heating up

I have an older Maytag Atlantis Dryer that does not heat up. I see that the igniter lights up but the burner does not ignite. I cleaned the exhaust sensor - unpluged the electrical connectors on the sensors and burner, they seemed clean and repluged. Anyone have a suggestion...so that I do not have to replace parts that do not need replacing.

Exhaust is clean; good gas hook-up.

SOURCE: After a few heating cycles the burner does not ignite

The problem you are describing is usually associated with a bad gas valve coil. The dryer runs normally until it gets hot, then starts making a strange clicking noise. After it cools down, the dryer runs normally again. The gas valve coils (there are two of them) usually run about $20 a piece. I recommend replacing both of them at the same time just to be sure. I hope this helps.

Check coils on burner assembly. Often when a dryer heats initially and then stops heating a coils has gone bad.

Try running it with the vent disconnected and feel the air coming out of the dryer. It should have good flow. If it dries good, your pipe may be clogged.

That would be the "igniter" you hear. You may have a problem with the igniter or the 2 coils on the gas valve. Below are links to the parts.

Igniter works fine but there is no flame so therefore no heat

Replace the coils on this burner assembly. this will fix this issue you are having at this time.

The coils open and close the valves, which are responsible for gas flow. these coils are damaged.

Maytag atlantis dryer does not heat

Perhaps the thermal fuse is open. All thermostats and thermal fuses should be closed for continuity at room temperature on this dryer.

As you are looking at the igniter you may notice a little rectangular sensor to the left.
This tells the dryer that the igniter is glowing and it is OK to open the natural gas valve. If this sensor isn't working, the gas valve remains closed
Once the burner is lit, there is another sensor above the flame that is round. (flame sensor) This tells the dryer that the flame is lit.
If this sensor isn't working the dryer turns off the burner after a brief period.
This sensor can be cleaned or replaced.
