Question about Hoover F7458-900 Upright Vacuum

Open Question

Buzzing noise when machine is turned on

We were using the cleaner, emptied the waste water, then tried to turn it back on. There is a buzzing noise (sounds like hair clippers) but no function of the brushes or sprayer. All of the tanks are seated properly, and we cleaned the brushes. It does this in all three brush positions. At one point, we moved the machine from one room to another, and it started up correctly, but when we turned it off to move a chair, it quit working again. It was only on for a few minutes at that point, and the motor was not especially hot.

SOURCE: Brush won't spin when position of handle changes

The belt for this machine is very specific and only one size fits. It is not uncommon for vac shops to sell the wrong belt because the proper belt is not available from normal supply houses, so they will substitute something they think will work.

Also, assuming you do have the right belt, check the tension arm that drops down on the v-belt when the handle is brought back. This arm has a wheel/bearing with a plastic "tire" or trim that rolls on the belt to tighten it. Sometimes, this tire cracks and falls off and then the remaining bearing won't have the necessary tension to tighten up the belt.

SOURCE: rug and floor nozzle brush not moving

What I had to do was take apart the vacuum head...which is very confusing, and the manual doesn't tell you how...the "secret" is to use a flat screwdriver to pop out the little wheels...there are two other screws "hidden" beneath them. Be careful as this exposes all the electrical parts as well - make sure you're unplugged! : )

It will make no difference which direction those washers are installed, just that they are installed.

My Sebo X4 does not switch on, when powered up two red lights flash momentarily. There was a buzzing from the black box underneath but that has now stopped. I changed the bag yesterday as it said it w

Your red lights flashing momentarily is normal start-up. The fact that your servo motor is operating tells you that you are getting power. If the vacuum motor does not turn on, you likely have a problem with the motor itself or the power supply board that feeds power to the motor. These items should be covered under warranty. However, if your vacuum is outside the manufacturers warranty, you can replace either of these parts fairly easily with only a phillips head screwdriver.I have included a link to the parts list for this machine. We do stock both parts. http://sebo.us/pdfs/website_schematicsPDFs/AUTOMATIC%20X%20Schematics.pdf

Try not to **** up any more water. Don't use until you can dry it out well. Hopefully you live in a warm climate so that will happen sooner than later.

Ensure the Dirt Devil is connected to a working power supply if it does not turn on or operate. Check the fuse or breaker and replace or reset as necessary.

  • 2 Empty the dirty water tank if there is little or no suction. Turn off the Dirt Devil and grab the top of the dirty water tank. Push on the latch to release the tank and pull the tank off the base. Remove the lid and empty the dirty water into a sink. Replace the cap and hook the front of the tank onto the machine base. Hook the nozzle on the base so that the nozzle is level with the cleaner base. Push the back of the dirty water tank down and into position.

  • 3 Check the dirty water tank and empty as necessary if there is water leaking from the cleaner. Open the latch on the top of the solution reservoir and pull the reservoir forward. Fill with Dirt Devil brand cleaner to the fill mark. Fill the rest of the reservoir with hot water and close the cap. Replace on the base unit.
  • 4 Make sure the solution reservoir is seated firmly in the base unit if there is no cleaning solution dispensing from the unit. Fill the solution tank with cleaner and water if the level is low.
  • 5 Examine the hose and nozzles for possible obstructions if the carpet cleaner does not seem to be operating correctly. Remove any blockages.

My bissell cleaner bottom brushes are not turning and the big tank of water is not working only the small stain tank is working. it is still sucking up the water

Check the brush drive belt has not broken by inspecting from underneath. See the manual pages 21 & 22 for removal instructions. Download a copy from the following link

This may be caused because the pump belt has stretched or broken or the pump is seized and will not turn. Remove the pump belt and turn the pump rotor with your fingers to see it turns freely. If it does then the pump should be OK but the belt may be stretched and will need replacing. If the unit does not spray after changing the belt then clean the spray nozzles at the front of the machine and make sure that water flows to the nozzles OK. You can check this by temporarily disconnecting the nozzles from the plastic pipes.

    Main causes for no spray.

    Bladder may be empty.
    SmartMix Bottle may be empty.
    The Filter may be clogged.
Tanks may not be seated properly.
    Pump may have lost prime.
The Pump Belt may be broken.

2 front jets are blocked. This is a common problem. When the machine is standing for a while the detergent turns to a gel causing the blockage Lay the Bissell on its side then where the water comes out of the jets at the bottom of the machine unblock them using a pin to poke through the hole in the centre.

Try running hot water through the system with no detergent to empty out all the residual detergent. Keep running hot water through the system by pressing the button you press for it to spray the water do this for about 5 mins and keep swapping the water for hotter water as it starts to cool doing this 4 or 5 times might solve your problem if not get the tools out and start looking for the blockage. Do this once a month to ensure that the pipes and jets are kept clean and free of any detergent gel build up.

Is the overfill valve (the yellow thing) in the waste container stuck in the up/full position? Maybe it just needs to be rinses well to avoid it being stuck and shutting off the vacuum portion of the cleaner.
