Why wont my emachine desktop burn data onto a dvd disk

First check whether you have a DVD writer or not.
1)If you drive is a DVD writer a DVD-RW will be written on top of the drive otherwise it is not a dvd writer...so obviously it will not write a DVD.
2) If the drive is a DVD-RW then you need a burning software to burn diske. Please download any valid burning softwares from the interne such as 'Nero' or 'Power iso' and install the same in your pc to burn dvd.

If you feel that, my answers have helped you getting solution to your problems then please give a vote.

Thanks.

I need to know if my DVD Drive can burn dual layer Discs. The Discs are DVD+R DL and my dvd drive is an Optiarc DVD RW AD-7200A ATA. Thanks

Hi anternidrumm,

According to the site below, the drive can burn dual layers discs:

"The 20x DVD multi writer opens up new dimensions for flexible read and write functions. This high-performance DVD/CD-burner is able to read your DVDs at a speed of 16x and CDs at 48x. It also brings fascinating dynamics into play when writing your blank disks. Now it can even write DVD-R DL two layer media at 12x, while reaching a speed of up to 20x for DVD+R and DVD-R. DVD+R9 and DVD+RWs are processed at 8x and DVD-RWs at 6x. And DVD-RAM can be recorded with up to 12x DVD speed. So how fast can it burn my CDs, you might ask? Even here, with speeds of 48x (CD-R) and 32x (CD-RW), it’s at the top of its class."

Acer aspire 2920

Disreguard the product recommendation. You posted your question in the hardware recommendation section which is for upgrades and such.

For a lap top you can unplug the batteries and power cord. Then press and hold the power button. This is called a power-drain.

Then I would remove the hard drive and make sure there are no bent pins (if older IDE type). Then I replug the hard drive
and replace the batteries and power plug.

Reboot the laptop and enter bios. See if the hard drive is detected. I

F still nothing, try another hard drive in the lap top

or

try that hard drive in another machine/hard drive enclusure to see if it works.

If the harddrive checks out then maybe the laptop hard drive connection is damaged.
That would be verifed with another hard drive.

Hope this helps.

Wanting to burn a dvd

No, it is a CDRW and DVD drive only. If it were to be able to burn DVDs, it would say DVDRW. Your drive will play DVDs, it just won't burn them.

Thanks and please take a moment to rate as fixya.

Hi... My 14 y.o. daughter has a Benq lap top (Joy book) which was purchased in Hong Kong 15 months ago. The other night, when she had it plugged in to recharge, we suddenly smelt a "burning...

hmm just ur power supply (battery) might have burned out if ur lucky
and if ur unlucky then ur mobo fried out also
so i would suggest is getting a replacement battery from a store that accpets returns (such as staples, best but or along these lines) and get a battery that replaces the old one. and if ur lucky the new battery would do the trick (this seemslike what happened)
if not.... just take the hard drive from that laptop and buy a new laptop and put the new hard drive in that laptop
or u can take it to a technician and ask him to see if ur mobo fried up and if its a real expensive laptop (probably is cause its a BEnQ) then just replace the mobo probably cost u around 150

try not to do anything or open other program while its dvd shrinking or burning....bcoz dvd shrinking and burning occupies lot of memory cache and cpu usage.

I need a new hard drive

You can go up to 120 GB for this model computer. Following is a link to Drive Solutions, Inc. It shows a 120 GB ATA drive available for your drive. ATA is the formal name for an IDE drive.

Here's the link:

http://www.drivesolutions.com/cgi-bin/shop/ug2store.cgi?command=listitems&kind=acl&pos=0&type=itemid&itemid=acl228

Good luck.
