My car is suddenly spitting and sputtering and the EPC light is on along with a triangle with a circle around it and a ? in the middle. What does this mean?

EPC stands for Electronic Power Control and it means that there is something wrong with your cars electronic systems (in your case most likely the electronic engine controls). This could be a serious problem with one of your cars systems or could be as simple as bad wiring (especially if your car has any added after-market components,I would go to any Kragen auto or a chain parts store like them and they will run a trouble code test of the cars electronics, post the code on this thread so if I or another expert reads it he will have all the original information.
I doubt that would turn the light on, have the testds run I suggested

Those lights have gone off and not the check engine and battery light are on. All the gas stations have been running out of gas over the last month. I just filled up my car, do you think it could be bad gas? The tail pipe is sputtering, if that makes sense.
