I have the Same Problem, it can play cd/dvd that are already burn but if i put in a blank it say cant read from this disk

You can try to delete upper and lower filters for your system. go to start>run>type in regedit click ok> start looking for this parth HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318},when click on the folder look on the right column and look for upper/lower filters and delete it. restart system. Try updating the firmware of the optical drive depending on the model.
caution:be careful with deleting registry for your system this might affect your operating system functionality.

I upgraded to xp and since then my sd c2512 drive will not play dvd's and says there is no dvd software. Also I dont have the original boot disk, do I need to buy dvd software? or is there a download fix...

Did you buy this item as a notebook part, or did you buy another unit such as an external drive and take the drive out of it? If you took the drive out of another item, then you are going to have problems with the on board firmware. Toshiba is a nightmare for doing this.

Also some Toshiba computers do not allow you to upgrade the drive, even with a new Toshiba drive. I learnt this the hard way many years ago. At that time my new Toshiba Notebook would not recognize the New Toshiba DVD Drive, but my decade old Gateway Notebook did. I contacted Toshiba and they said they Firmware lockout new upgrades to encourage people to buy new computers.

DVd-rom replaced but not working properly

check the copyright settings on it, most dvd's have that so people don't bootleg it and re-sell it, check to see if there is any scratches on it, check for dirt, or take it to customer support and get a new one

Dvd burner not working

It sounds like the DVD burner does not have a "write strategy" for the type of disc you are using. This results in the burner and the software having an endless argument about how to go about the burn!
You can either use another brand of disc more compatible with your burner or go to the DVD burner's manufacturer's website and check for "Firmware" updates.
The firmware is the software within the drive that establishes the write strategy for each type of disc and these are often updated.
If you do update the firmware then be sure to read the instructions on the manufacturers website carefully and follow them EXACTLY.

Need driver for 8x dvd drive for thinkpad

When a properly inserted and working drive is connected, it is automatically discoveredand installed. Specific drivers are not necessary or available. I will assume you are not talking about a DVD viewer application?

If the OS does not discover the drive, then the drive is likely defective, or not properly connected.
