Can not load mini DV in my camcorder

I have the same problem. Let's face it, this canon camera is crap. I've put maybe 20 hours on it since I bought it new. I bought two of them by the way. One of them developed a problem with the microphone - $150. The other won't let me insert a tape any more and it's not because of the glide path. I can cover the sensor with my finger (simulate a tape in the carriage and it will not close, then flashes an error to remove the tape. I've tried many different tapes. Something else is telling the camera not to close if it senses a tape in the carriage. I also have the problem with the zoom going crazy. I have to tap on the side of the lid to make something connect before the zoom returns to normal.

Did you clean your heads?

Could be a faulty tape transport mechanism tape path is not getting aligned. Regular maintenance & adjustment is critical. Pay attention to the degradation of the rubber on the pinch roller, which grips and pulls the tape during transport. This rubber should be replaced at regular intervals.

If it's old enough to be out of warranty, there may be a part failure, like a spring or clutch in the camcorder itself. Unless you can see something obvious (like a foreign object - kids you know) there's not much you can do on your own. I would send it for repair.
