I have a Canon MP530. I recently had the Vista program installed on computer and went wireless with keyboard, mouse, and Netgear Router. Now,I can't get my fax part of the printer to work. Think it's a connection problem with phone. Can you help me reconnect to telephone. Deanna

My printer is only a year old and was just serviced. I'm getting no help from you. Please refund me the $10.

I knew it was something simple, because things got disconnected while installing new programs.

    Thank you!

If you are using ADSL/DSL internet for your system and connected to your router. You need filters installed on all lines using the same number or jack(s).

Do you have a filter installed for the line going from the jack to the "Line" in on your fax connector at the back of your printer.

Also, when you proceed to install updated software for your Multi Function printer, the USB cable that runs to your computer needs to be disconnected prior to and during the installation of your updated Vista drivers. The installer for these drivers will alert you as to "When" you need to connect the USB cable again. Be certain your printer is powered off. Once you are prompted to restart your system, you can power on your printer. Should Windows notify you that there is "New Hardware Found", you can point that installer to the source files you just used to install the printer and in some cases you can close out the Windows New Hardware installer as you have actually just installed the pinter anyway.

Let us know how you make out. And should you have any questions feel free to ask, please preface your comments with my user name, such as: "Worldvet: Would you elaborate on that installation again?"

Thanks for using FixYa.

Make sure that your phone line is plugged into the "LINE" jack on the printer/fax and not the "PHONE" jack.

Hope this helps!!

Just to clarify..... the line that comes from the phone jack in the wall, needs to have a phone cord running from the wall jack to the printer/fax's "LINE" plug. This should be the only connection needed to fax and receive directly from the printer/fax. :)

Sure..but lets check something first..hook up that phone line to a regular phone, and make sure that the line is good. do not assume this yet..and then come back here with that answer..

it is entirely possible that the drivers for your canon need to be updated, of course

www.canon.com has those by model number

asking about the phone line is standard, troubleshooting procedure.

no phone goes into bottom of the printer only..see my note on the drivers for vista though..may solve a whole bunch of issues.

deanna..the vista install is what most likely caused this..the phone line is not an issue. did you follow that link to the new drivers?

We are moving and need the MP530 to operate wireless and wish to buy the interface through the router; does a (say) five year old MP530 support a wireless interface?

This model printer has only an USB printer connection.
To connect this printer to a wireless network, you need additional equipment, a print server with an USB pirnter connection and then connect this printer server to a wireless router using a LAN cable.
It may be easier to purchase a new printer with wireless connectivity.

Canon mp530 all in one. Vista sees it as fax only. The computer installed the saw the machine but will not see that it is also a printer.

You probably have the wrong driver installed. Remove your PIXMA icon.

Wireless Printer Setup

For installing a wireless printer on Windows XP, wireless router is an essential device.

Follow the recommended steps mentioned on the installation CD of the router, and set-up a wireless network.

Since several computers or laptops will access the printer, it0 1is recommended to connect the wireless printer to the main computer through the USB port.

To begin the installation process on Windows XP, access the network setting in the Control Panel, and activate the file and printer sharing option in the LAN setting.

This will allow the operating system to recognize the availability of a wireless printer.

Now, click the Start button, go to Devices and Printers, select Add a Printer option.

Click the second option- Add a network, wireless or Bluetooth printer.

The computer will search for available printer and reflect it on the screen.

Click Finish; and the printer is ready to begin the printing process.
