So I just got a Dell Optiplex sx280 that runs windows xp and can't connect it to the wireless internet at my house. The built-in driver is a Broadcom NetXtreme 57xx Gigabit Controller, and I don't...

Desktop computers do not usually have a wireless card installed. They will have a built-in LAN card that uses a LAN cable.
If you want to connect your computer using a wireless connection then you will need to install a wireless card in your computer and configure it to communicate with your wireless router.
Otherwise you can connect to your wireless router using a LAN cable.
Your wireless router may have built-in LAN ports and you can connect your computer to the wireless router using a network cable.

Is there anything changed on the wireless router? You may need to contact the one who is in charge of the router. Or, you can check the network connection settings and figure out whether you are connected to another wireless network now. Sometimes it is automatically detected by your computer that one wireless network is not available and another one in the list is working so it will switch over.

Emachine won't connect to the internet. Ethernet cable, router and modem all work just fine. problem is with computer. Check network adapters in device manager and no problem noted there. Why won't it...

first try to check if your wireless can actually detect a network, if it can try to remove ALLthe network that you have on your wireless network and try to add your network again, if still doest work try to uninstall and re install your wireless driver, if it still doesnt work try to restart your router, if still doesnt work try to do system restore to the point where your wireless was workin fine, lastly if still doesnt work try to contact your ISP for some configuration.

Hello

more information is needed to answer your problem.

Is this a laptop? Brand and model please? Also do you have a wireless router in the house? Has anything been done to it yet?

Do you know the name of the network you should be connecting to?

Not reading wireless connection

The wireless router needs its wireless settings configured and also the wireless card in all the laptops and or computers needs to be configured with the router’s wireless settings so the laptops and desktop computers can communicate with the wireless router.

To set-up and secure the wireless router from unauthorized access, follow these steps: -
1. Connect the wireless router to your computer with a LAN cable.
2. Start your browser and enter the router's configuration URL IP address.
3. Enter the router setup, login and password
4. Change the admin password
5. Go to the wireless settings and change the default SSID and turn off SSID broadcast.
6. Setup encryption key the strongest is WPA2 (if not then WPA).
7. For further security measures - turn on MAC address filtering and enter the MAC address of the wireless cards on the computer/s you want to connect to this wireless router.
8. Record the settings you have made and keep it in a safe place and Save the settings.
9. Configure the wireless cards on the computer/s with the SSID and encryption settings of the router.
10. Remove the LAN cable between the router and the computer then the computers should be able to connect to the router wirelessly.

Wireless LAN

You can tell if its the driver by going into Device manager. Start>right click on My Computer>click on Manage>then find device manager in the left plane window. Look down the list of hardware and find network adapter. Click on the plus sign and it should show you are card with 802.1xx on it, that's your wireless lan card, if there is a yellow, red or black symbol next to it then just right click on it and choose :"reinstall driver" see if that helps. If everything looks fine then let me know there is one more true way to check if it is your wireless card or something else. If you have any questions let me know. Pls rate this solution.

Ive Recently got myself a laptop but unfortunately it had to be rebooted as it picked up a virus.Since then my wireless cardbus adapter hasnt been working correctly. The link and act lights are not lighting...

You need to make a note of the EXACT make and model of your wireless cardbus adapter.
Then use an internet-capable computer to download drivers for it-from the manufacturer, if you don't already have them, which is what it sounds like. Save these drivers on a disk or USB flash drive or memory stick.
Then transfer those saved drivers to the computer that needs the drivers.
Then type "device manager" in your Windows search area
Then find your cardbus adapter listed and right click on it, and select PROPERTIES
Then click on update driver
When it asks where to look for the driver, browse it to your specified location where you saved the drivers.

You might need to restart.

Hope this helps.
