Usually universal remotes are programmed by holding down the device button (i.e. if you would like to teach the remote how to control a TV, press and hold the TV button). If the device key lights up when pressed, it should stay on or blink when in programming mode.
After that, input the code that corresponds to your device:
The remote will either accept this code directly, or you'll need to confirm it. Try pressing the device key again.

Use any option you are not using on the,TV remote. Go to the pioneer web site and find your model receiver and then find the codes that work for it. Try each code with the receiver on. After entering a code hit the power button. When the receiver turns off your all set
Set-up (Programming) procedure is too much to type in here, and is not practical and it will differ brand-to-brand remote controls. If you wish to get more; check the sites linked here. It has set-up code list & set-up procedure to many popular brand remote controls. One among it has general set-up codes to check with TVs and other devices are given, in the order of the 'device's brand name list' in alphabetical order. Pull up older posts. Search the sites by type in the brand name to your device in its search box at the top right part of the display window. It will help you to find the document easily. http://remotesearch.blogspot.com/ http://electronicshelponline.blogspot.com/ http://electrohelponline.blogspot.com/
HAVE A REMOTE FOR MY PIONEER SD-P5185 PROJECTION TELEVISION. THE TV IS ABOUT 10 YEARS OLD OR SO. REMOTE CONTROL IS MODEL CU-SD092. DOES ANYONE KNOW THE STEPS TO SEARCH CODES TO PROGRAM THIS TO WORK TV. IT WORKED BEFORE BUT TOOK THE BATTERIES OUT AND NOW I HAVE RESET IT AND DON'T REMEMBER HOW TO REPROGRAM
It's quite likely the codes are the same. Check the manuals for the models on Pioneer's website (www.pioneerelectronics.com) for the year/date they were issued. For most models issued around the same time the codes were the same, but they also post IR codes, so you can verify there as well. If you can't find any information I will give you info on ordering the exact remote you need and options for universal remotes that have your model.
Pioneer VSX-D509S A/V Receiver Owner's Manual contains Instructions and codes. 509S remote in the manual is the same as AXD7248. Learning mode also allows you to program multiple remotes into a single Multi Control Key. I successfully programmed keys from both DVD-R and TV remotes in the 7248 DVD Control. VSX Manual available at: http://www.manualnguide.com/dl/6011.
I have this remote...only Pioneer listings are as follows:
To program (for example TV setting):
Press and hold down TV while entering code i.e. 1-0-0-4
To manually cycle through all codes (example for TV):
Press and hold TV while pressing and holding ON/OFF, after 3 seconds the on/off button light should come on and stay on - release all buttons. Turn your TV on and press ON/OFF once each 5 seconds until your TV turns off. When it turns off, you have the correct code - press the stop button. Good luck.
