My Maytag washing machine does not really agitate

It sounds like the belts need replaced. There are 2 of them. One drives the transmission, and one drives the belt. They should both be replaced. Also, there are rollers on the motor bracket that wear. Make sure the motor moves smoothly back and forth in the bracket.

I have a maytag performa top loading washer, model # PAV3240AWW, that overflows. It doesn't happen every time and it doesn't matter what size the load is or what cycle I am using.

You have sand and sediment in the sump base of tub. All you di is remove the rubber hose on the water level switch and blow out the tube with your mouth. You will feel it when the **** is out of there. Then reconnect that hose tightly to the switch and pump out any remaining water in the tub. here are some repair photos

Washer is making a loud noise when its trying to rinse

you will have to open up the panel to check where the smell comes from. It could be on the motor which may cause also a loud noise or from the electrical, loose connection or bad relay may cause a noise of a different kind.

8-24-2009 5:55 P.M. I have a Maytag Performa PAV3240AWW top loading washer 2-3 years old has worked well for an active family of four until the last load of wash. It seemed to wash and rinse cycle OK when...

It sounds like the belt broke or the lid switch could be bad. Use a screw driver to manipulate the switch with the machine on. If you can tip the thing back enough to check the belt. I hope this helps.

Maytag washer m/n PAV3240AWW

I suggest changing the belt for a new one, in fact if this model has 2 belts, replace them both.
I ran 2 laundromats... this occured frequently due to over loading the machine and then the belt would get damaged just enough to foul up the proper agitation and the spin/drain cycle.
Just change the belts and i'll bet that will get you back into service!

Let me know.

WASHING MACHINE

There could be a couple of reasons for this. When this occurs, look to see if the load is evenly distributed around the circumference of the tub. If not, redistribute and continue with spin cycle. The machine may not be level. Check to ensure that the machine's leveling legs are making contact with the floor and that there is no movement when you attempt to rock the machine. If the unit is sitting on a soft floor, this could happen from time to time.
