You will need to go into the BIOS (usually called Setup) when the computer begins booting and define the drive (A:) as a floppy drive.

When a compaq armada m700 laptop is showing non-system disk or disk error replace and strike any key when ready

this usually happens when the computer is trying to boot from a disk that isn't a valid boot disk.

if you have a floppy drive plugged into the multibay and a floppy in the drive, try removing the floppy.
if there is no floppy involved, try to boot from your system recovery disks, as it's likely that the boot record on the hard drive will need repaired. your system recovery disks should walk you through the process.

I bought hp compaq presario cq43 111tu laptop last day and i prepare to use windows xp3 problems is i don,t have a support driver for my mobo..

Looks like that lappy comes with free dos? It is likely too new for XP to recognize the sata controller for the hard drive and cant find the drive itself. This is where it gets tricky. You need to find out what SATA controller is in the computer. You will then need to go to that manufacturer's site (like and download them with another PC (obviously). Then you will need to get an external floppy (assuming it does not have a built in floppy drive), put the drivers on a floppy, then... 1. boot the PC with the XP disk. 2. When prompted, press F6 to install additional drivers. 3. Put the floppy in the drive and follow the onscreen directions.
My advice to you is buy a copy of Win 7 and use that - it should have those drivers built in. Another option is Ubuntu Linux - free download, has everything windows has - just cant use it to run windows software.
Good luck. =0)

Not recognizing hard disc drive for windows xp reinstall .

You aren't using the correct install disk . The generic XP install disk can't recognize a SATA disk. You will have to load the appropriate driver during install. Here it is
Or you could create a custom install disk  as explained here

Cant install recovery disks after a hard drive reformat!

the recovery disk is designed to repair or restore a system to its previous factory condition and is not a full installation. the formating of your hdd would have erased all the data required for this process to be completed. you can try a recovery utility that may be able to help you at this link. the disk might not have been saved in an .iso format to tell the computer to run it before starting an OS. if this disk is recognized and runs on your system then you will need to attempt a recovery, which is unlikely since the drive has allready been formated many necessary system files may not be able to be restored. at this point a complete new install will be necessary.
Good Luck!

Compaq Presario 2800 hard drive not recognized

I think you have a sata drive here.
If so you need to install sata drivers for set-up to recognise the disc.
Download the drivers from manufacturers site:
use link below (I know its HP but its the same model different badge):

When installing XP press F6 at first set up screen (you are prompted - look at the bottom of the blue screen) and then later you are prompted for the drivers

You need to be able to use or attach a floppy drive for this and the sata drivers obviously need to be on the floppy disc.

You could try placing hem on a usb stick and setting the bios to read from it a second boot option
