Hooking up a Internal Hard drive

You probably need to give more details. If it's a replacement drive, did you reinstall Windows from a CD? Did you copy from the original hd? It's simple enough to remove the two cables from the original drive, physically remove and replace the drive, and hook up the new drive. But then you'd need to boot to a Windows CD in the CD/DVD player to format and install Windows, if that's what you're attempting to do.

There's possibly a recovery partition on the old drive )or a recovery CD). If so, you'd connect the new drive to a second power cable, and data cable (which might not be included in the tower) :

(from http://support.gateway.com/s/Manuals/Desktops/8510406.pdf)

To restore system software from the Recovery discs:
1 Insert the Recovery disc #1 into the CD or DVD drive.
2 Restart the computer, then press and hold
R when prompted to display the restore process options. The
Options menu appears.
3 Select a restore process option:
- Press R to boot from the hard drive recovery partition
or CD. If no recovery partition is found, go to Step 4.
- Press F to format the hard drive and perform a full system
recovery, then go to Step 5.
4 Click a system restore option. For more information, see
"Restoration options" on page 5.
- Non-Destructive System Restore (Recommended)
- Full System Restore (Destructive)
- Full System Restore (with Backup) (Advanced Option)
5 Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the system
software restoration process.

How to get back to factory settings

Have you created your Application/driver cd from start, system recovery?

To recover your system from the hard drive:
1 Remove all CDs and DVDs from the disc drives, disconnect all USB devices
except the keyboard and mouse, then disconnect your Internet cable. If you can still run Windows, click Start, All Programs, System Recovery, System Recovery, then click Yes. Your computer restarts, then the System Recovery program starts.- OR -Turn on or restart your computer and press F11 while your computer is starting.3 Insert the Operating System Recovery CD/DVD when prompted. The System Recovery program starts.4 Click a system recovery option:??  Full System Restore (Destructive) reformats the hard drive and restores the system software as it was when you purchased your computer. This process deletes your data files. CautionThe Full System Restore option deletes allfiles on your hard drive except the restorefiles. Make sure that you back up allpersonal data files before continuing thisprocess.??  Full System Restore (with Backup) (recommended) moves the contents of the hard drive to the C:\My Backup folder and installs a new copy of Windows XP. This option saves your existing data files, but all programs must be reinstalled and the program settings reconfigured. You need at least 4 GB of hard drive space to use this restore option.5 Click Next. The System Restore - Format and Recover dialog box opens.6 Click Yes. Files are restored to your hard drive. When file recovery has finished, the System Restore dialog box opens. ImportantAfter you restore your system, it willappear with the same files and programsit had when it shipped from the factory. You still need to download Windowsupdates and antivirus updates to bringyour computer's software up to date.7 Click Restart. Your computer restarts, and Windows finishes its setup and installation.8 Reconnect your Internet cable and all USB peripheral devices. You are done.

If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it and give a testimonial for my response

Sony desktop vaio computer keeps saying missing operating system

Your operating system is currupted. You will need to repair it or restore it, if your sony desktop came with a recovery/repair cd. If it did, insert the disc, turn on the computer, set boot priority either in your bios (boot options) or the startup screen to dvd/cd rom, and follow instruction. If it didn't come with a recovery/restore disc, you are in trouble, and will need a full windows installation via a windows operating disc.

Hi, my big problem is my laptop acer travelmate 2420 needs recovery disk! to fix the problem i need to restoreing operating system to factory setting, any one there please help?

Recovery disk will not help u make ur notebook facotry fit
First u need to get a full version Windows install CD
try piratebay.org
u can get the torrent link file there for any win OS and download that,
it will get u the full working version of any Win OS
google search "Torrent piratebay Windows XP"
u also need to get/install BitTorrent software from google/internet to get the torrent link file...
the full file of WinOS say 400 - 700 mb may be a ISO file that u need to burn to a CD so that u can boot from the disk and install windows
visit my site (FormatDisk page)
www.sureshayyar.110mb.com for a full detail on how to do it

Presario desktop windows vista, shuts down unexpectedly

Windows Vista will not install on old computers. If this is your case try installing Windows XP, If this does not work you might want to try Linux (Ubuntu). which will run on almost any old computer with full capabilities.
It is free and you can download it from

After running full system recovery I tried to reinstall my printer and scanner. I reinstalled my printer (HP Deskjet 870ces). Then tried to reinstall HP Scanjet 5100c on a machine running Windows XP Pro....

Some time printers and scanners conflict. Try this, uninstall both printer and the scanner, then install the scanner first and try it to see if it works. Then install your printer. If it doesn't work let me know I'll walk you through. Good luck :)

I Believe that you are using HP Deskjet F380 All in One
You have not mentioned the Operating system of your computer.
You can go to this Link :- http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareCategory?product=1128296&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&lang=en&cc=us

Once you go to this link you will see the Options for Operating systems. You need to Choose the Operating system according to your computer. On next Page you Need to click on HP Photosmart Software and Drivers: USB Support
or Either
HP Full Feature Software and Drivers
and then you need to follow the Screen Instructions. you will be able to Install the Printer. in case if you still Require the Driver cd you can Order it from the same Page there is an Option of
CD-ROM order page - CD/DVDs you can click on CD - HP Full Software and Driver and you can Order a driver cd for you Printer. you need to make sure that you choose the Correct Operating System, Whether it is windows Xp or any other OS.

I made a system recovery of Vista, then ran it and it worked, I installed Unix Ubuntu and decided I didn't like it. I went to re-install vista using my system recovery and it failed, do you know how I can...

Hi!

I understand that you had Vista installed on your computer, then installed Ubuntu, decided you didn't like it, and now want to reinstall Vista, but your system recovery disc does not work, correct?

From you description, I presume you did a full install of Ubuntu, which will require a full reinstallation of Vista to restore it. If you still have your original Vista install disc, load it into your CD-ROM drive and follow the prompts to reinstall Windows. If you can't find your install disc, or if you were never provided one, contact Microsoft's customer support and ask them how to get a new one. You can also ask them about getting new system recovery discs, which could also help revive your system.
