Question about Sony DHG-HDD500 400-Hours Video Recorder

1 Answer

Sony DHG-HDD500 I have a Sony DHG-HDD500 that has about 80,000 hours on it. Lately, the audio and video have been frequently dropping out. My connections are HDMI to a Sony HD set and fiber optics for audio. Do you think my hard drives are going bad? Thanks, Bob R.

Sometimes this problem happens to me when strong winds blow my antenna out of the orientation. Please adjust the antenna and see if it helps.

plumboner is correct. HDMI and fiber optics respond immediately and your amp is responding as quickly. Signals can drop out quickly over-the-air and as quickly come back. HDMI and fiber optics respond exactly as received. If you experience the problem too often, consider hooking up the unit with component video and analog audio, they tend to buffer the drop-out better. The component video hook-up still passes 1080i just like HDMI, so you shouldn't lose any quality.

Can i set the clock manually ?

Yes, you can. There are different ways of going about it. There's an ongoing thread in the AVS Forum specifically with these Sony DHG units, now that the TV Guide System (ROVI) has been discontinued - which these Sony units relied on the Guide data to set the clock:

This thread is very, very long. The following link starts in Nov 2012 where the discussion picks up about ROVI stopping the TVGOS except via the Internet:

Ps3 HDMI cable no audio

You might want to try another HDMI cable...the one you have may have a short in it. You can find HDMI cables for really cheap online so it's not a big deal to buy on eor two more as back up. Also, try changing the audio settings with in the BluRay or DVD itself. Sometimes the movies can default to an unsuppotred audio format.
