I had the same problem and called comcast support, they told me to change the HD receiver settings from 1080i which is the default to 480P (not 480i) and the image shows up perfectly now. Also, The TV is by default set to 480p but using the service menu, you can change it to 1080i. i would advice keep the TV setting as it is and find out from your cable company how to change the output type from your HD receiver. Comcast Support was very helpful to resolve my issue.

The problem you have has nothing to do with the cable box installation! The convergence fault was going to happen anyway. Im sure you think the install had something to do with it? My freind, problems do arise with these electronic devices all the time , and just out of the blue. Sorry for your troubles ,BUT if your not a service tech or know the safety issues involved with the repair of tvs now a days, I would call a pro to assist you with servicing this set. As theres Hi voltage inside of sets even when they are unplugged. Good Luck

Auto focus and manual focus(red+will not move left

Your TV most likely has one or more possible problems.

Problem #1: Convergence Chip Failure ( common problem )

Here are some of the most common symptoms and example photos of a convergence problem
  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.

Here is a quick test....

Using your original remote go-to the tv settings then goto the convergence section.

Try to adjust the red and then the blue convergence.

You should be able to move them up, down, left, and right.

If you can't move them in all directions your convergence chips are bad and should be replaced. This is a common problem.

You need to replace the convergence chips and convergence resistors. Check the site www.TvRepairKits.com. They have put together a kits for most models. If you don't see a kit for your set send them a quick note and they will put one together for you. Their kits include a photo instruction guide, original OEM Sanyo STK chips, convergence resistors, pico fuses, etc.

Problem #2 CRT Fluid is Cloudy

Projection TV tubes have a liquid coolant that is used to keep them from overheating. After many years the coolant in the blue and green tubes will become cloudy and cause the screen to look dull, red/orange, etc. You may even see halos around images.

Picture of a set that needs the fluid changed.

What you will need to do is replace the coolant and clean the crt. You can get a repair kit from www.TvRepairKits.com that includes replacement coolant, photos. instructions, etc.

That is a convergence problem, it may be because of a faulty defective IC.

Having problems with projection image on tv

Ok let me get started by saying this is What is known as CONVERGENCE Your projection tv has 3 projection tubes Red Green and Blue. They all have to hit the same spot to create different colors they all have to come to a CONVergence as it were. Someone mentioned deguessing this only works with crt type tvs... Ok i see these set very frequently at the shop, I need to first ask you a few questions. FIrst one.. Can you go into customer setup menu. When you do can you see a option called "convergence" Very important if you do not see this option it might be a good thing. there is a common problem with these sets FL231 it is a very small special fuse that blowns due to poor connections.. IF you know how to solder and can get this fuse it will save you hundreds of dollars. Now if you do see this option then sorry the troubleshooting continues,,, next go into this option there should be 3 options autoconvergence red convergence and blue convergence first try auto convergence the screen should go black and start flashing little red blue and green boxes aroung the edge of screen. this takes a few minutes and hopefully it will end in a full green screen, if it ends in red then next try manual red and blue options u get a cross in center and when you up and down left and right it should move the red or blue cross with it.If it does move then it might need a service convergence. if it doesnt then you have trouble with ether what is known as convergence power supply or convergence amp board. and at this point i would suggest a tech. WARNING THIS SET GENERATES DANGEROUS VOLTAGES AND RETAINS THESE EVEN WITH THE SET UNPLUGED. I do not recomend inexperience person to remove the back cover of this set. BOy I did not realize i could get so long winded(lol) just be carefull and good luck and if you need any help just get back with me ill try to be reponsive

Red - green and blue seperation after a storm

The convergence Issue is caused by your convergence ICs needing replacement you will need to replace both convergence ICs they are STK392-110 and you can get replacements at the following link and they provide free instalation instructions with the ICs and if you leave them an email indivating the problem with your remote and your model number they will also have the small sensor that your TV needs and they can tell you how to test wether the remote is at fault or if its the sensor itself that you need.Heres the link.
